Cherry G80-3494 LYCUS in Hong Kong?
« on: Mon, 27 September 2010, 00:07:45 »
Hi there,

Having worked at a data entry position that routinely requires me to type in excess of 15 000 keystrokes per hour on a machine with Cherry MX Blacks, I'm familiar with the benefits that mechanical switches bring to the typing experience. As such, I've been considering upgrading my current Rubber Dome keyboard for a set of Mechanical KBs.

Specifically, I am looking to find a keyboard with the Cherry MX Red switches. I have found the Blacks occasionally too stiff for quick entry and I would prefer the lower force of the Red. I haven't tried anything but the Blacks, and as such, I'm not sure if I want the so-called "Tactile Bump" of the more common MX Blues and Browns.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, the Cherry MX Reds are quite rare in this part of the world, and as such, I put off the idea of obtaining a mechanical keyboard for quite some time. However, I've just got notice that I will have family coming from Hong Kong, and they'd be more than willing to ferry things to me. Rejoice! I've identified that the model I would want is the Cherry G80-3494 LYCUS, which as far as I can tell is one of the few keyboards out there that sport the lighter MX Reds.

My question remains: where in Hong Kong would I be able to point my family towards picking one up? I imagine that they would be found in Hong Kong computer meccas of the Golden Computer Centre in Sham Shui Po as well as its equivalents in Mong Kok and other districts. However, I'd like to be more specific, it would be rude to send my folks on a wild goose chase in those packed places looking for a product they know little to nothing about.

So, anyone here know of specific shops that would carry this keyboard? Greatly appreciated and thanks in advance!

Thank you!

It appears that it isn't his storefront, but just a place to pickup (as opposed to meeting face to face in a MTR/KCR station or through the mail), so I'm guessing I'll have to arrange an order beforehand. I'll see if I can get ahold of this individual and work something out.

Hauton,

Just so you know there are 2 variants for the G80-3494 LYCUS.

One is white keyboard and the other a black keyboard. They both use cherry red mx switches.

But what separates them is the white uses PBT keys, whereas the blacks use POM keys. So the black may be the better buy :X just so you know.

Oh and there is one other difference, its to do with the idents on some of the letterings is slightly different.

I don't why anyone would want to associate their company with a picture of a smoking fat guy with a bad haircut who can't dress.
