Today was a good day, food-wise.  Check it:

-breakfast: oatmeal (w brown sugar, raisins, walnuts).
-lunch: small pasta salad w green olives, carrot juice.  it was delish. Taste the lack of fat!
-dinner: salmon steak, and a samosa. Omega threes!

It was all very tasty too. And I feel great.

White wine adds some acidity.

When I worked in the stores, we had a Cosmetics manager that drank nothing but cranberry juice, because (as she claimed, anyway) her boyfriends (!) liked the taste.

I ignore the last posts and just say what I'm having for dinner: Chicken Katsu with japanese rice (grown in California), cucumber batonnets and some sauces.

My Culinary Institute of America  book call them batonnets but I'll call them liberty sticks from now on.

We call 'em cucumber slices.  Another example of how Americans don't like the french.

The best Japanese rice is grown in California.  Genetics.

actually I think you would call them cucumber skewers, as "batonnets" implies there is a stick involved. I prefer "brochettes", as they say in Quebec.

I made this.  The problem is I don't have a grill.  Being the genius that I am, and the fact that I have one of these, I thought to myself, "I can do this **** on the stove top."

Wrong.

Well, not totally.  The fish came out perfect and was absolutely tremendous.  The problem was that it filled the entire house with smoke.  Fortunately, a "cold" front came in last night, and we were able to open up the windows, but next time, I'm doing that **** outside.

Yeah, but it's one of the ones that just recirculates back into the house.  That is one thing I miss from my old house.

Last night we had a ham which was slowcooked in apple cider, cooking sherry, with spices and white raisins, for ten hours, then covered with a glaze of brown sugar, mustard, cloves, and juice from the slowcooker, baked for another half hour, served with our special cornbread and asparagus (sauteed after boiling).

Soooooo delicious. So were the ham sandwiches today. :)

i've baked/broiled killer salmon fillets in a toaster oven before. One nice thing (other than less cleanup -- just throw the aluminum foil away) is it cooks in half the time, too.

having whole wheat penne tonite, really looking forward to it.  never had whole wheat pasta before, apparently its pretty good.  I'll be spending $20 on it so it better be good.

this is the meal i was supposed to have a month ago, but we wound up going for quesadillas that night.
