Time to brag about the best deal you got on a keyboard.
« on: Mon, 04 October 2010, 17:49:57 »
What was the best deal you ever got on a good keyboard?  Here's mine:

I was at a computer show/sale thing in Illinois around 2005.  This guy had a box of 20 keyboards he was selling for 4$ each.  They were all model m's, a lot of them being the 42H from Scottland.  So I said, "how much for the whole box?".  The price: 20$ for the whole box.

The only downside was attempting to carry a box of 20 model m keyboards to my car... HEAVY

So what was YOUR deal?

I think $215 shipped for my second Realforce 103UB 55g was a pretty rockin' deal. Especially since it was like new when I got it.

I got a perfect condition 1991 Model M for $4.24 - on eBay last year. It must have been a slow day or something because every other Model M I saw that month went for over $50 - and a lot of them looked like crap.

Gateway 2000 Anykey: 1.50
Black Cherry keyboard with built in trackpad : 2.50
Really dirty black Cherry board: 2.00
Blue ALPS keyboard : 2.00
Black ALPS usb keyboard : 2.50
3 83-key black Cherry XT keyboards: 2.00 each.
My favorite Fujitsu Peerless : 3.00

I go to a lot of swap meets, and my 'new' keyboards usually take a lot of cleaning up, so I spend more $ in time than actual cash.
Notable Switches I have tried:
black cherry, blue cherry, brown cherry, clear cherry, cherry M84, white alps, black alps, cream alps, Monterey blue alps, Fujitsu Peerless, Gateway2000 rubber dome, Keytronic rubber dome, Model M buckling spring, Model F buckling spring, futaba, black space invader

Like new AEK clone with white clicky ALPS for 1 SEK (0.14 USD). Won at net auction but I picked it up locally. I have no ADB converter, but I will transplant the switches to another board.

Then there are the dumpster finds ...
