Das model S silent or Filco Majestouch

I'm pretty much forced to sell my model M13 because it doesn't have a windows key (I use a usb switch between my pc and mac, mac requires it for shortcuts) and I'm in the market for a new keyboard. I don't want to spend much more than $130 and I'm going to be doing a lot of typing and gaming with it. After some research, I think I'll be happy with cherry browns.

Right now I'm going between these two keyboards

Das model S silent
Filco Majestouch

A USB hub is a pretty big plus for me and the Filco doesn't have one. I don't mind spending a little more for the Das keyboard, but I also want to get the best for my money. I'm just under the impression that Filco makes better keyboards. Is there a big difference between these two?

No, they're made by the same OEM.  Get the one you think looks better/has better features.

I had the same choice, and I chose the filco because of the das glossy finish.  I prefer matte on a keyboard.  You can't go wrong with either one, though.

Are you a student/teacher?  If so, you can get a discount from DAS.  Just email them and they will let you know what they need.

I thought you knew all this from the food biz?  ODM versus OEM versus....  It's inside what counts (including firmware).

Everyone's favorite kicking bag of 2009.  The Das 3 controller.  The Filco is different.  I haven't seen the Das S taken apart yet.


Switches, structure, and feel are all about the same and that's what counts.  Firmware is intangible, and you only really know the difference if it doesn't work.  If it comes from the same OEM/ODM and the overall structure is the same, then really the only difference is features and looks.

Isn't one PCB-mounted and one Plate-mounted? Doesn't that cause a difference in feel?

No, they're both plate-mounted (AFAIK, only Cherry uses PCB-mounting).  If you read Ripster's comparison, he mentions he doesn't feel much difference between the two.

Thanks guys. I decided to go with the Das because of the usb hub. I can't want to get ahold of it. Hopefully I'll like it just as much as my M13.
