Couple ideas:

1) Make the recordings with two microphones in either ear as stereo channels to get a binaural recording and a fully immersive experience (ala the virtual barbershop - headphones required).
2) Record keypress and key release separately for modifier keys so that chords sound correct.

1. Then I would have to have the key clicks bound to the keys themselves ( Or how strange would it be that when pressing on 'enter' it would be on your left side.... ). This is not un-do-able but very time consuming. Now the keyclick sounds are at random except for the space-bar.

2. This also posed a problem -> upon decompressing the mp3 file there is a few miliseconds pauze and hence the keyboard would not simulate very well.. But it is worth diving into to find the most optimal script that could actually work with separate up and down clicks....

EDIT : I changed the blackwidow simulator such that the up and down stroke are separately sounded... Works great ! Thought it would have more problems....
EDIT2 : somehow I don't like the up-down simulator that much -> if you want to try it go here. It sounds un-natural when typing so I am back to my first choice -> no up-down difference.

Yeah, some proximity effect and a tad too much room ambience there. That's a tough combination since more directive mics (less ambience) will generally have more proximity effect, too. I'd say best find a recording location with better sound damping and take care of proximity effect by hand (EQ).

Another impression I had was that volume levels seemed to be normalized (and generally too high). At least the Topres didn't seem that much less noisy than boards with blues as I'd have expected.

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

I think the Filco brown sounds the best of all, at least in the simulator.  The Das came through nicely.  I thought the second Realforce though had a bit too much hiss, but honestly, it's a nifty use of flash and I had fun for a few minutes.  I don't think anything else really matters.

Here's my 'new' setup. Dual condensor mics with 120 degree field.
I noticed when putting them as close to the keyboards as possible I get less noise ( of course )
With this setup I re-iterated over the ones I had already done ( that was with a webcam mic ) so now they sound A LOT better...

Rip -> what I need for the selectric simulator :
10 mp3 clips with random keys being pressed
1 mp3 clip for the space bar being pressed
1 mp3 clip for the return key being pressed ( and the whole carriage thing goes from left to right )
1 mp3 clip for the 'static' noise it makes without keys being pressed ( was thinking of a sort of looping mp3 in the background.... )
A picture of the selectric I can find on the web, but if you have an authentic one, that would be much better!
EDIT : I might also dismember the sound sample you already have, but this will give not as good results.... : First try
