How to relaunch a keycaps group buy in a different profile?
« on: Mon, 29 July 2024, 05:17:05 »
Hello, everyone.

I'd like to ask some questions about keycap group buys and how to design keycaps.
I'm very interested in the DSS Hand Work keycaps and would like the opportunity to re-initiate a group buy, but with the DSA profile. as the previous rounds of group buys didn't seem to offer an option with the same height for wach row. I think DSA allows for a free combination of keyboards with different configurations.
This is the first time I've been involved in keycap making, and I'm wondering if I should approach the author who made the previous DSS Hand Work for some kind of licensing? Since I noticed that there are multiple companies that have made this keycap, I'm not quite sure who I should approach to get a licence.
I would also like to design some novelties also in this kit if possible.
Also, I really like the DSA keycaps made by signature plastic, but I've heard that they are planning to sell their company, so I was wondering if there is any update on that? Can I still commission SP to make keycaps for me?

Thanks a lot guys!

Yes, you need the express written consent from the previous designer, especially in the case of Signature Plastics.  SP is very strict about this policy, as a few group buys have been canceled with lack of consent.

SP is still accepting group buy orders.  It shouldn't be an issue at this time.

Got it, thanks for the heads-up! I'll make sure to get designer's written consent before moving forward. Good to know SP is still accepting group buy orders.
