RESERVE

Updates:

- Updated kitting mistakes
- We're looking at Fauna & Flora as the recipient for the donation. They are doing work to protect pygmy hippos in Liberia in their native habitat ( https://www.fauna-flora.org/appeals/save-pygmy-hippos/ ). David Attenborough is one of their VPs and has been working with them for a long time, and they have a 93% on Charity Navigator ( https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/813967095 )

We still need to do some research to make sure this is the right place to donate, but I'd say the chances are high it'll end up being the one.
- Kitting fix: amending 1.5u back to Backspace
- Confirming charity donation amount

- Updated renders to reflect colors better

- Vendors Finalised

- Pantone chip photos added

For a community that is about aesthetics there sure are a lot of people that cannot tell the difference between colors.

Will some of the profits be donated to Moo Deng's zoo?

Beesley and I are currently discussing this. We favor donating to a wildlife foundation that explicitly tries to preserve pygmy hippo native habitats vs. the specific zoo, though - they've gotten a lot of donations already, including some fairly massive ones, and habitat protection is more important for the species on the whole.

Thanks for calling that out. I'll blame it on being stuck in UK ISO mode. Fixing the kitting now.

I’d go take a look at blue alert’s recent sales graph with a focus on the amount sold prior to extras being purchased.

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=123626.msg3194635#msg3194635

400ish base kits sold, at the absolute most trusted USA vendor. Extension sells half, and that extension has novelties which is some people’s interest in it. Your MOQ is 250 for base because custom colors and 100 for child kits.

International kit sold…17? Maybe 18 kits. Vendors had to buy that to 50. Those kits are usually sold without profit. A UK kit is going to be hard to sell 50, and even harder because low MOQ kits are priced high.

With these constraints: what would base/novs/accents look like if this were all that ran? The accent kit as is will approach 40$. Are there keys that could be cut to get it to 30?

Neat design, I’d buy. But the market right now is pretty limited for GBs, and GMK child kit pricing is rough at low MOQ, and that’s gonna change kitting decisions.

Hi! Thanks for the interest in the design.

Beesley and I have a decent amount of experience in designing keycaps, including GBs and GMK sets, and have a good network of vendors to work with. There are some special considerations we have around the International and UK ISO kits that should make them feasible, but we'll adjust if that ends up not being the case for whatever reason. This kitting is in-line with what we have had success with this year.

Pricing is going to depend on our discussions with vendors and GMK, and if anything seems to be a poor fit, we'll also look at any changes that need to be made.

It's worth noting that this International kit had the normal cheaper GMK kitting AND extra keys for the numrow. Which for a lot of users would mean they felt forced to pick up the alert row kit to 'make it feel worth it' which in doing so, pushed the overall price way out of peoples budgets. It was a reason why I skipped Blue Alert even though I often buy international kits.

Thanks!

And yeah this is an oversight, we also just did Backspace for the 1.5u on ZX. Will confirm with Beesley and we'll get that fixed.

The original post got updated, but just in case anyone missed it:

Beesley and I are taking 25% of the designer profit and donating it to the previously mentioned charity.

Here's a poor pic of Hooty irl. Hangul sub-legends, different color pink, mods are the same color as alphas, grey legends on alphas and mods. The only similarities are the grey color and use of a pink color.
