Unikeys Sugar Rush Linear Switch

If it is not obvious already, People here at Unikeys are huge HMX fans. It literally doesn't feel enough for us to only make one customized switch with them. That is why we immediately started working on a new switch concept after the release of HMX Purple Dawn switches. It didn't go so well at first, however. The main reason for that was because there were plenty of HMX switches in the market already, and making another one basically equals creating a re-color of something that already exists. That is why we decided to be patient and wait for the right opportunity to come.

With the release of the 80 Retros Film switches, a new era of HMX had begun; Film switches brought HMX's new mold design to the market, and this mold set has a lot of potential that hasn't been exploited just yet. We knew it was our time to start the process of making something different.

Sugar Rush is Unikeys' second collaborative project with HMX, and Sugar Rush switches were manufactured using HMX's newest mold sets. Unlike the HMX Purple Dawn switches—designed for a deeper, fuller, and "thockier" sound—Sugar Rush was drafted and created with an entirely different goal in mind. These switches are meant to deliver a loud, clacky, full and high-pitched sound, paired with a sturdy, smooth, and snappy feel.

HMX's new mold set and molding design

In Unikeys' blog section, we have a detailed article explaining the differences between HMX's 3 generations of mold sets. We have created lists in the article differentiating switches that were made with the different molds. If you are interested, please feel free to take a quick look here: https://unikeyboards.com/blogs/weekeebpedia/breaking-down-hmxs-latest-mold-improvements-what-keyboard-switch-enthusiasts-need-to-know

In short, the new mold empowers HMX's new switches with the following features:
1. Loud, clacky, full sound or Deep, creamy, and thocky sound depending on the materials
2. The same classic solid HMX bottom-out feel is kept
3. Stem wobble is still minimal, but the syringe effect (ie sticky or sluggish keystroke) has been completely fixed
4. Upgraded leaf which has no leaf ping or unwanted noises

I am not trying to say HMX's old mold is not as good now; If the goal is to create a switch that sounds like Xinhai, Cheese, Cloud, or Macchiato switches, etc, the old mold is still the only way to go. However, since these classic HMX switches have already covered most of the sound spectrum, it is now necessary to utilize the new mold to make something that sounds and feels differently.
