I cant fix my hotswap keyboard (FIXED)
« on: Sun, 30 March 2025, 04:44:33 »
First of all, im new to this forum. Last year i became a fan of mechanical keyboards so i got 3 of them, i have kids so my 4 years old daughter destroys electronics pretty often lol
i already fixed other keyboards but i dont really know what to do with this one because is a hotswap one, im kinda lost right now so i came here looking for the experts

An entire column doesnt work
even the rgb is messy, if i try to press a key all the leds of that column turn on
theres continuity from the left pin in that column and also continuity from the right pin to the diode

I don't think we could ascertain much from the provided photos without a bit more information.  I'm not an electronics repair expert, but if this was my keyboard, I would follow the trace from the last key in the column all the way back to the controller.  Which I would check for continuity from the controller pin to the column.  When you say they all register when you press just one, that sounds like it's a short.  A closer visual inspection for a missing/loose component? Liquid damage shorting something connected to that trace?

However, then you say the column DOESN'T register anything yet the LEDs light up? Is it sporadic, or does it have the exact same behavior every time?

Anyway... I would definitely start by following the trace carefully (might run through to both sides of the board through a VIA at some point) all the way back to the controller.  Speaking of, perhaps a better closeup shot of the controller from directly on top.  It's fairly hard to tell if any pins are loose or bridged from a photo, but I definitely cannot tell from the angle you provided.

Test, hand-wire it:

(and not hotswap so often)

"the whole column activates".. i would first check the diodes. most multimeters have a diode measuring function, but measuring in circuit might not work. worth a try though (just make sure to get the polarity right).

Sorry, didnt knew what to show exactly but with what you told me and ncrowl link i managed to fix it, it was very difficult to  search for the trace because this pbc is really messy but i searched in the chip one by one until i found it i just didnt knew where to look for continuity, i just bridge the first key of the column and voilą! now i managed to save another keyboard too
Thank you very much Pixelpusher

The white keyboard is the messy one btw

Thank you very much for the link i already fixed my keyboard and one more
now im thinking about building my own keyboard lol

Thank you for your help, i fixed it already
