[IC] Wraith 60%

Hello, dear friends this is Kenny from GRIT，Today let me introduce a brand new design from our studio, A 60% HHKB layout keyboard - Wraith!

Last year, I had the idea to collaborate with Orangeko on designing a 7U HHKB Keyboard.
The design concept for the front visual of the Wraith 60% was inspired by the Tanto 60%.
My personal interpretation of the Tanto 60%'s lightbar was to optimize the visual proportion of the 7U HHKB layout on both sides by using components made from different materials.
So we brought this concept to the Wraith 60%.
Initially, we wanted to accentuate the front visual with tritium tubes and stainless steel mirrored PVD parts.
However, due to the unique shape of the tritium tubes and other alternative glowing glass materials, it was difficult to achieve a refined effect within the limited space.
In the end, we decided to go with the more traditional silicone light bars, paired with the stainless steel mirrored PVD to create the visual highlight on the front.



The logo on the back is the abbreviation for Wraith.
The overall design concept was inspired by mecha and race cars, so the outer lines are sharp and rigid, while the inner lines referenced the new Formula 1 logo, which using curves to express speed.
The original intention behind the design was to achieve a relatively light appearance through the use of angular lines and curved surfaces, while maintaining a solid and sturdy framework and material choice.
We used a whole piece of stainless steel as bottom case, which is embedded within the midframe to ensure both styling and structure feels more solid.

Although I am not a fan of HHKB, you know, Kenny's design is amazing!
Especially the Lightbar, which adds the finishing touch to the unchanging and monotonous front.

The effort to optimize the visual aspect ratio of the HHKB 7U layout with different materials for the front panel is a nice touch, even if the original tritium tube idea didn’t work out. The choice of stainless steel for the entire bottom case, embedded in the mid-frame, speaks to the commitment to a solid, premium feel and durable construction, a significant plus for a custom keyboard.
