My first mechanical has arrived.
« on: Thu, 04 November 2010, 11:46:12 »
My first mechanical keyboard arrived today.  It's Das Professional Model S UK, which also has the media keys.

I absolutely love it.  I don't think I've ever typed on a keyboard as nice in my whole life.  One thing that was a nice surprise, I don't know why but when ever I looked at pictures of one, I always felt it looked like a big keyboard, but's it's not, it's quite a nice size.  I'm coming from a Logitech G11 which was huge compared to the Das.

I know it's my first one and I can't compare it to other mech keyboards, but I would highly recommend the Das. It feels so nice to type on and feels solid as a rock build wise. I can't believe how heavy it is.

It does feel good, man.

My room mate had a G11, and he actually got rid of it because an old HP membrane keyboard had better feel. I can only imagine how much of a change it is to go from that to a Das.

My ultimate is also one with media keys and I'm very happy with that. I didn't know they were rare.

"What kind of keyboard do you have?"

-"Das Keyboard."

"I know its a keyboard, what kind is it?"

"DAS KEYBOARD!"

I'd like to grab a das... but it's quite pricey, might as well grab a filco blue tenkeyless with that monies D:
Current Keyboard: Filco Majestouch 104 Browns (FKBN104M/EB)

Current Mice: Steelseries Xai (1400cc//800cc) on Steelseries 9HD.

Anyone want to donate me a keycap remover? <3

id argue that the old g15's are awesome, but the new ones seem to have much crappier build quality and dont feel anywhere near as good.

my daskeyboard just came in today, ultimate with brown switches, feels amazing :D  hijacking your thread because i didnt think it warranted its own, sorry~

It's a G15v2, smaller profile. Haven't noticed the build quality too much, and it has been better than the Ergonomic keyboard that I have @ work, but once I tried one of my co-workers' Das...

I need to get Blues next, hmm should I just go otaku and get one... On other hand I think I have used my month's computer quota, with some other stuff... Basicly blacks might not be the right move, but I would like now to find something bit stiffer than browns, which are bit too light for my taste just now.

I hate you Nexus...
So I should add something useless here yes? Ok, ok...

Do we call it 'the Das Keyboard' or 'Das Keyboard'? I don't know how much a fan I am of the shiny case and the font on the keys.

American cooooould call it "The Das Keyboard" but it's awfully redundant

It also just sounds terrible, however I never come to a decision about this; thankfully I have not been presented with too many situations in which I have had to refer to 'Das Keyboard'. Thinking about it, the name sounds wrong either way.

I don't like the notion of having "CAPSLOCK" when "CapsLock" or "Control" (preferably) would suffice and look better.

Also got a Das today (As I've already posted in It's in the mail, lol)

My pictures actually are pretty much the exact same as yours, but without the media keys. Edit: Also, apparently very very blurry. My bad, apparently my hands aren't still enough to take decent cellphone pics.

My feelings are exactly the same.

Here's a few pics of my Das Ultimate to spice up the thread:

I stopped reading John Sandford when he named a character Del Capslock. Must have been a slooooow day at the computer.
I trolled Geekhack and all I got was an eponymous SPOS.

That looks amazing.

Which is why people buy glossy black things. They only notice the downside a little later...
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

I tend to be a little obsessive about my workspace, so I already wipe the dust off my desk every other day. This means that keeping my Das looking nice and clean already comes naturally
