What do you do with unused keyboards?
« on: Sat, 02 August 2025, 22:13:52 »
I have about 13 keyboards, and I have about 5 of them in regular rotation at work and home and the remainder just gather dust (figuratively, they are covered and protected).  The unused boards all cost between $80- $120 new- boards like Anne Pro II, Poker 3, and KBP Paradise.  The ones I am using consistently are Leopold variations and DROP variations.

I have considered selling them, but I expect them to yield something like $0.30 to the dollar, then you have to factor in all the listing and transaction fees to sell them.  Then you factor in what additional money and labor you have sunk on them- springs, switches, lube, etc.  Unfortunately these add zippo to the actual value.  I bet the enthusiast-grade $500 boards hold their value better.  What do you guys do with these unused boards.  I almost feel it's better to keep them for the one day a year that they may get used.

KPB V60 Gateron Browns and Leopold Keycaps.  Poker 3 with Gateron Browns and Poker keycaps.  Poker 3 with Cherry MX Browns, ABS keycaps and white LED's.

Leopold FC660M- my new favorite, right out of the box.

I'm in a similar boat. I have like seven freebie sub-$100 keyboards that I only used for a couple days each. They're neither reputable nor exotic enough to garner much secondhand interest. I did try selling them locally but I have almost no time to meet these days and the listings got so little attention anyways that I just pulled them. I would probably get more traction if I tried selling them on eBay but yeah, I'd get reamed on seller fees and I don't really want to deal with packaging for all of them.

At this point, I'm considering just selling them in a bulk lot and taking what I can get, or cannibalizing them for parts. That or maybe hang onto them - save them for a friend's birthday or something.
