I'm in china for 2 weeks. Any good deals I could get here?
« on: Sun, 07 November 2010, 09:46:00 »
I'm in china for 2 weeks. 1 week in Shanghai, 1week in Beijing.

Does anyone know any good deals I could get here? Looks like tech is cheap here. I have: Filco browns and white fake alps, kinesis ergo. Would not mind to get a second filco brown, or maybe topre. Do not like HHKB, the more keys the better. Need a windows key or two, as I use this as meta key in xmonad...

Thanks!
keyboards: Cherry G80-3494- cherry reds | filco majestytouch - cherry browns | kinesis contour - cherry browns | cherry G80 - 1800 cherry blacks.
mice: filco touchpad | logitech G9x | wowpen joy | kensington orbit trackball | zalman fpsgun | intellimouse v1 | logitech rx1500

i suggest:

cherry g80-1865 wnv version around rmb 1050
filco 80% white case(not switches)  around rmb 1100

ducky 9008 mix switches version with pbt keycap  around rmb 850

those are the keyboards u can't find outside china

I posted in Runeazn's thread this store in Shanghai.  And then the guy flaked and his parents never went.

Also a HK Red Cherry store later in the thread.

Post back what you find.  General Electronics shopping links are here.

Appears to me China is quite different than Japan.  Little e-malls instead of Mega Electronics stores.

My parent did go to china.
The people cancelled my order...
We even called them.

in china, you could find e-malls in most cities. but it is not easy to find a store selling mech. keyboards since they are not widely used. some dealers won't rent a store in the lobby in the e-malls. they may just rent a small room in the warehouse in the e-malls to lower their cost and some may even have no store. it is better to find the dealer on taobao.com or www.pcwaishe.cn and contact the dealers first to confirm where they are.....

u might find some dealers in a e-malls
but most of them sell rubber dome only, few of them might sell some mechanical keyboards, but basically normal models like cherry g80-3000 or filco fkb104eb

btw,plu 87 won't be in store till five days later

kbc keycaps values rmb 60 per set included 37 main keys

I got a cherry with the cherry reds (!). Funny that I live in Germany and had to go all the way to China to buy it. Thanks a lot for the pointers.

btw, I had a hard time finding the ducky kbs. The guy who sold me the cherry (at 1050 renminbi, around 100 eur!) says you cannot find them in stores, only on the web. In any case, I'm very happy with the cherry reds. I was using cherry browns before, and this is definitely an upgrade. I'd say it's the lightest keyboard that I have used. This is good for me because I did have problems on my left hand. I'll have to report later to see if the reds are better long-term. It feels like I can type much faster.

actually, there may be some stores selling ducky. but it is not easy to find them if you are not the local.

anyway, have fun with red switches from china.

Where did you buy the Cherry Reds?  I can add it to the China buying links in the wiki.

Hmm, I wish I knew the name of the store :/
It's about 10 min north of the century avenue metro stop. There are a few electronic shops there, but this one is a mall and much bigger than the other. The guy with cherry reds is on the 3rd floor.

Although, I think i did get a card from him! His mobile is 13601651943, and on the back of the card there's a link: www.tazetzone.com. Doesn't seem to be working here, but it might be a glitch.

He had the promo cherry switch thingies (isolated switch on a square plastic container, so you can try them) for comparison. He knew what he was talking about.

hahah that's actually a pretty common situation in China, stuff that's made in China but not sold in China proper... The Playstation 3 when it launched, for example. Or when the iPhone 4 launched in Hong Kong a few months before the mainland and people in Shenzhen (and the first of China) had to get their border day pass to come to Hong Kong to buy a product that is... made around Shenzhen.

Here in Hong Kong the 99.biz.hk store doesn't have retail, figures with property prices hitting rents around here.... I've only seen Steelseries in the general computer mall stores here, I figure they'll have the Razer product soon as well, otherwise the scene is pretty quiet. Good thing there's 6 jumbos to Tokyo a day over Christmas, and who knows how many planes, buses and trains to Shanghai or wherever...
