Non printed Filco Keycaps help
« on: Mon, 08 November 2010, 21:42:17 »
Hey everyone,

I've been lurking a bit for a few weeks and this is my first post.  After some research I decided to purchase a Filco Tenkeyless Cherry MX Black as my first mechanical keyboard.  I also ordered a blank set of keycaps from keyboardco in the UK (largely to increase my nerd rating).

Unfortunately, a lot of the keys came off the adhesive backing during the process of shipping.  The exterior box looked like it had been thrown around quite a bit, but the keycaps themselves appear undamaged.

I noticed that under the caps there seems to be some sort of coordinate system; I imagine they define their shape/angle and intended placement, but I'm hoping there exists a legend of some kind that I could use to reconstruct it correctly.  Or at least some sort of guide that I could use to align it correctly by sight or measuring angles.

Thanks in advance!

The wiki has a shot of Filco keycaps:

I also measured the angles myself before:

I don't know if I can speak specifically to the coordinates, but you can tell which row the keys belong to by how steeply they're sloped, with the flattest ones going in the front and the more sloped ones in the back. The F-key row is the same as the number row. Keys that are the same width and are in the same row are interchangeable. In other words, A, S, D...L, :, " are all identical.
You can call me... Keyboard Otaku... or not quite...

Look behind the keys, they have names
place them in this order.
Keys can be placed in any other as long they are in the same horizontal row.

[Top]
Cant remember the name of top row - ESC row
R4 - ` row
R3 - Tab row
R2 - Caps Lock row
R1 - Shift row
R1 - Ctrl row
[Bottom]
