Keyboard for Main Office Use?
« on: Wed, 10 November 2010, 09:12:30 »
I have a Rainbow Cleaning System office.

I have the 1985 Model M in my personal office and the other Model M at home, foolishly I sold my September 1985 to Sam. Which now puts me in a small situation I want to put a model M in the main computer where I normally type the most and other employees have access to it.

What can be a better choice?

I wanted to get an Industrial Model M (1388032) and place it in the main computer of the office.

Or I was going to call Unicomp and buy one of their USB Model M's with Windows keys ect. But yet I am not a big fan of the 42H1292 model M

Or even trying to source a 1390131 from 1986 for them to use

I think people are wondering how the way your office gets cleaned affects your choice of keyboard. Do they just set off the sprinklers on a sunny day?

I was thinking of getting a model F but I think that would annoy some employees based on the layout

I'd say Unicomp Space Saver or I very much like my Rosewill RK-9000.

I'd say Realforce, Keytronic (rubber dome) or something with cherry browns.

I use a Model F in my office and highly recommend it.  I've even got several spares.  I'll trade you one for your June '85 M if you'd like. :)  They are noisy, but I'm perfectly fine with it being I have my own office.

In all honesty, I don't really understand much the noise issue.  When I started my first job, the office was filled with IBM Selectrics being used constantly and it didn't bother anyone.  Everyone was used to the noise.  Nowadays people use these horrible rubber domes and have become accustomed to quiet keyboards.  I say force everyone in the office to start using buckling springs and it'll become like music to everyone's ears after they get accustomed to it.

I brought a Model F to my cube (sorta), when I worked in Japan. Nobody said anything about the noise.
Mind you, there were much noisier things in that particular office (for example, I had a couple ribbon printers on my desk that I often worked on)...

I take requests for making keyboard converters (i.e. *old keyboard* to USB).
