Slider-Crank Mechanism PCB-Mount Stablizers

Hello, this is your old friend, DesignerStudio. We are coming back with a new branding Consi Studio!

After three years of continuous refinement, we have taken our adaptive stabilizer to the next level with an entirely new mechanical design. Following extensive testing, repeated revisions, and multiple rounds of prototyping, we are now confident and ready to introduce this all-new product to the keyboard community.

Now, let us take a closer look at the key improvements and changes in this new generation of stabilizers.


Structure Introduction



This product introduces a fundamentally redesigned mechanical keyboard stabilizer structure. Unlike conventional PCB stabilizers, in which the stabilizer wire moves vertically during operation, this design integrates the wire into a pivot-based mechanism. Movement is achieved through the combined rotation of the pivot and the sliding motion of the stabilizer wire.
This structure prevents the stabilizer wire from moving loosely within the slider（stem）due to mechanical clearance, thereby reducing unwanted noise, wobble, and rattling.

In conventional keyboard stabilizer designs, the stabilizer wire continuously changes its position and effective clearance relative to the the hole in the stabilizer stem as it moves. As a result, the dimensions of the stem hole cannot be precisely matched to the diameter of the wire.
This inherent structural limitation means that conventional stabilizers cannot completely eliminate wire play at its source. It is also why keyboard enthusiasts commonly rely on various lubrication and filling modifications to reduce rattling and other unwanted noises.
In everyday use, most of the noise from Stabilized Keys is caused by wire play. To address the issue at its source, our team carried out an entirely new and more advanced structural development based on our adaptive plate-mounted stabilizer and the V2 PCB-mounted stabilizer.
The entire mechanism is built around a central pivoting slider. As demonstrated in the animation, the stabilizer wire only slides relative to the central slider during operation, without directly colliding with it. Meanwhile, the slider rotates around the fixed pivot hole in the stabilizer stem. This mechanism can be regarded as a variation of the classic slider-crank mechanism.
The primary advantage of this structure is that it completely prevents direct impact between the plastic components and the stabilizer wire, thereby eliminating the structural cause of free play and the resulting noise.
In addition, every component within the mechanism is made from rigid material. Unlike stabilizer designs that incorporate elastic materials inside the stabilizer housing, this structure does not produce a soft or mushy key feel. Instead, it delivers an exceptionally smooth and consistent keystroke experience.


Clip-in Top-Entry Screwhole



Traditional PCB-mounted stabilizers generally use one of two mounting methods:
1. Cherry-style clip-in mounting
This mounting method follows the original Cherry design. However, when removing keycaps, the stabilizer housing may be pulled out of the PCB. The clip-in connection between the housing and the PCB may also feel relatively loose.
2. Screw-in mounting
With this method, screws are inserted and tightened from the underside of the PCB. Although screw-in stabilizers provide a more secure connection than clip-in stabilizers, the installation process is more complicated and requires the PCB to be flipped over repeatedly.
Improper screw installation or overtightening may also damage PCB traces or cause electrical faults. In addition, conventional screw-in stabilizers may have limited compatibility with O-ring mount cases, as the mounting hardware around the spacebar can interfere with the O-ring gasket.

The V3 PCB stabilizer features a top-access screw-expansion retention clip designed to address the limitations of both conventional mounting methods.
Its clip-in base keeps the initial installation simple, while a support screw is tightened from the top to prevent the retention clip from disengaging. With precisely controlled dimensions, tightening the screw expands the retention clip, allowing the stabilizer housing to lock securely onto the PCB without any looseness or wobble.
No metal component comes into direct contact with the PCB during installation, reducing the risk of damaged PCB traces or electrical faults.



Factory Pre-lubed, Ready to Use



Unlike conventional stabilizers, this design requires lubricant to be applied to specific contact points, as the amount and location of lubrication can have a noticeable impact on the overall feel and performance.
To provide the best possible out-of-box experience, every stabilizer is carefully tuned and pre-lubed before leaving the factory. Simply install it upon arrival—no additional tuning or lubrication is required.

A comprehensive accessory kit provides support for different PCB thicknesses and multiple keyboard layouts.

❷ 1.2 mm PCB Shims: For 1.2 mm PCBs with non-split stabilized key layouts.
❸ 1.2 mm PCB Shims for Split Layouts: For 1.2 mm PCBs with split stabilized key positions.
❹ Stabilizer Stem Spacers: For stabilized keys using switches with a total travel of 3.6 mm or less.

Both the 6.25U and 7U stabilizers are supplied as fully assembled and pre-lubed complete units. The 7U option is not provided as a standalone 7U wire.
