Inspiration

More
GMK CYL Draco is a design concept inspired by "Sodom's Beast, Draco" (Beast Nero) from Fate/Grand Order. Known as the "Beast of 666" and the "Enemy of God," she is a calamity born from the apostasy of the Roman Emperor—a remnant of the Sixth Beast defeated by Chaldea in a parallel world, manifested from the principle of "Depravity." It is said that whenever a thriving metropolis reaches the pinnacle of prosperity and falls into corruption, this beast appears to feed upon its vices. Arrogant yet devoted, cold-hearted yet deeply compassionate, sensitive yet lonely—despite being a beast that devours humanity, she chooses to walk alongside mankind. Representing both Evil and Love of Humanity, she is known as the Beast of Sodom, the beast prophesied in the New Testament to bring about the downfall of Babylon.

Base: Draws its inspiration from the concept of Calamity. Within the Dissolving Golden Theater, black and red together form the backdrop of Draco.
The etymological root, however, is drawn from Space Cadet rather than Japanese-origin radicals.
The reason lies in the historical significance of Greek mathematical culture, and Rome's role as a successor to Greek heritage.
Thus, the final choice fell upon Space Cadet—a root that carries a more distinctive stylistic character.

Novelties: Feature icons representing Draco’s signature elements—her iconic outfit, crown, tail tip, and crimson sword. The Roman numeral Ⅵ represents her title as the Beast of Calamity (ⅥⅥⅥ).

Alphas: Utilize Nero’s iconic red-and-gold colorway, incorporating metallic powder injection molding for the legends to showcase the regal elegance of the Roman Emperor in gold and crimson.

I think this set is pretty good, although I am curious as to why the base kit has cadet sublegends. They don't make sense thematically I think? And there is no mention of their presence in the text either. Was this set supposed to be KKB tripleshot pre-IC?

The layout diagram has errors and will be updated later.

[/quote]The following outlines the base design philosophy.

(Moreover, I'm tired of the same recycled Japanese radicals flooding the anime space. I believe that character etymology should be rooted in the character's narrative context—not lazily borrowed from Japanese by default.)

I don't think the source of the other Nero keycap set is a coincidence. What I need to make clear is that Draco was something I had already started communicating with GMK about back in March. The reason for the delayed IC was that I wanted to understand how metal injection molding would perform on a red base color. Shortly after I posted my thread on zf (the GMK Draco thread on zf was posted on the 15th of last month), that other Nero set—also featuring metallic characters on a red base—appeared. I find this rather puzzling.

No worries. Just happy to see FGO get some GMK love after such a drought. We had a ton of sets over five years ago but only Dragon Witch and Ishtar R2 since. Hopefully both Nero sets, the Arturia set, and some other servants happen (hopefully Jeanne and Gilgamesh)

Thank you. I'm not actually worried about any issues — I'm just suspicious about why another set of Nero keycaps appeared at such a coincidental time, especially with the same design concept as mine (the idea of a red base with metallic injection-molded legends was originally proposed by me). I'm also considering making an Avenger-class Nitocris keycap set in the future, as I'm quite fond of Egyptian culture.

not a fan of the sublegends on such simple colorway. I'd only consider with plain latin alphas.

Hi, I'm Mountain. Feel free to tag me with any questions about Draco design, and I'll get back to you promptly.

Cool set.

I have some suggestions, some stylistic and regarding modifier choice, kitting, etc.
Would you consider making these changes? It would be nice to have a Cadet-legend set adhere to "classic" legend styles rather than an odd, inconsistent mix.

1) R1 Print Scroll Pause --> Prt Sc | Sys Rq (front print), Scroll Lock (2-line), Pause | Break (front print)

2) R4 arrows --> Can you make sure that these are top left justified like they are in "OG Cherry" styling? Not centered on vertical alignment.

3) Accent question: what's the purpose of the R1 accent tilde/~` key? Why this key specifically?

4) Kitting suggestion: remove R3 Pg Up and R4 Pg Dn. There's already the canonical Home | Pg Up | Pg Dn | End column for 65/75%s.

5) Kitting suggestion: move 6u centered, 2.25u, 2.75u spacebars to base. The 1.5u Super keys and "second B" are already in base. What prevents the corresponding spacebars from being there with it? They are key compatibility at this point for many keyboards.

6) Kitting suggestion: add second R4 1u Alt. This is so that HHKB layout can be set up as: Alt | Super | spacebar | Super | Alt on the bottom row.

7) Style change: Numpad kit -- I feel like numpad kits with no sublegends at all work better with Icon-Mod-only base kits. Given the OG-like styling on Base (OG Cherry/Cadet), I would recommend adding sublegends to 7, 8, 9, 4, 6, 1, 2, 3, 0, . -- see here: https://www.gmk.net/shop/en/gmk-cyl-classic-beige-keycaps/fptk5040. Try rendering a full size or an 1800 keyboard to see a comparison of with/without sublegends. It looks odd to have a OG styled left/main side and then a very empty numpad.

8 ) I would recommend adding legends for key sizes to any keys 2u or larger in the renders to make clear what is included.

9) Kitting - Alpha: adding an additional 2u Backspace will allow users to be able to purchase both Base and Alphas kit and be able to accommodate two keyboards.

10) Kitting: missing F13?

11) Kitting: Base to Numpad: if you plan on doing TKL base + numpad separately, I'd suggest moving R1 End and R1 Pg Dn to the numpad kit, as these are keys used for 1800 layouts specifically.

Hope you can consider these. GLwIC!

Thank you for your suggestions. I will not be making changes to the mod zone. As mentioned in the description, I only used the Cadet roots in the alpha section, and this is entirely due to the historical inheritance of Greek culture by Rome and the flourishing of Greek mathematical culture. I will add f13 to the base in a future update. The ~/ on r1 is intended for the HHKB layout, as it allows for symmetry. As for whether to add a split spacebar to the base, I will need to give it some consideration. I have also taken note of your other comments and will make adjustments after further thought.Regarding keyboard rendering, the reason I used 80% rendering is that I designed a matching keyboard for Draco that corresponds perfectly to it. I will do a rendering of the full-size keyboard soon.Regarding the MOD character issue, I will ultimately adopt the standard GMK MOD characters. The current template characters are drawn by myself, so there may be some alignment issues. Finally, thank you for your feedback.

Regarding the pure Latin base, since I want to create red-background metal-injected molded characters for Alpha, if I don't place the radical strokes on the base area, they would have to go on a separate Alpha layer. However, metal-injected molded secondary radicals would be very unstable, so I've ultimately decided to keep the cadet radical strokes in the base.
