I am in the process of getting two Unicomps, but last I heard from Chuck was a week ago. Their store doesn't have my country listed and we have to go the manual route.
Drat!

I am now deciding between Customizer 102/103 and the 104/105 models. I will probably go with the 104/105 model. Since I work with Windows 7 the Win key turned out to be of use again (thanks to quick search in the start menu) and I would kind of miss it on the other model.

I was initially set on Customizer 101, but finally settled on the SpaceSaver with blank OS keys. Now if only Chuck sends them my way ...

I'm not sure how they charge on bulk orders, but for a single keyboard, you can do a custom layout for $20. I did that to a Customizer 101 to get a UNIX layout, and as a result of not caring about the caps lock key, I moved that to where ESC normally is, and put windows keys in the normal locations of control (bottom corners). Those 3 keys are blank, as well.

So, 101 with windows keys, in the HHKB (sun type 3) layout for only $20 extra? Score!

So what I'm saying is, if you're buying large quantities of boards, but want something custom, it would be relatively cheap to do. I loves unicomp. A great Kentucky company, too.

Is it possible to order a Unicomp with blank keys?

As far as custom layout goes, it would be nice to have a big enter and a long left shift. And no menu key. And possibly a hardware AltGr on the left side, e.g. instead of the left Windows key.

Yes! This didn't even cost me extra.

(I was browsing google image search the other day for Model F keyboards, and I found this image (which I took), on different forum altogether...that I don't frequent.)

And yes, blank keys on a Unicomp seem to be free (just to add a second voice to HaaTa's comment).

If you want that layout NewbieOneKenobi, just call them and talk about it. If it's a single keyboard order, it will cost a bit extra. And he'll likely have to verify with engineering that they can do that. Not sure how much it costs to call the US from Poland, but it might be worth it just to check.

Edit: By the way, HaaTa, do you like it in the black with the grey keys? That's what I ordered, but now I'm starting to worry that I won't like it...though it will look better with my monitors in my office, which are dark grey. At home I have both a black bezeled model and a beige bezeled model, so no matter what keyboard I have, it matches.

I had 4 moved around (ESC, ~, \, backspace), and 4 with different scancodes -- caps lock location sends control, standard control locations both send windows, standard escape location sends caps lock (he wanted it to send SOMETHING, so I picked that).

So I would say, yes, it is possible. Only in the PS2 model though, for whatever reason.

Edit: Oh, I just looked more closely at what you want. That sort of chording, I'm not sure about.

Why do you think the Zollamt will be a problem? I select FedEx international shipping and that's all I care about.

It's nice, but lately I got the desire to switch things around:

You guys made me want the all-keys-blank layout. (-: But I will probably buy one Customizer 105 with printed keys and another one with all blank keys. Now I have to spend double the money I planned. /-:

Just get a bag of blank keys.

That's a great suggestion, It would save me a lot of money. How can I order the blank keys there on their website? I don't see it anywhere to add it to the shopping basket.

Actually, when I would indeed order two keyboards, I could keep one at home and use the other one at work. Tempting.

I once had an ALT+F4 key on a keyboard. Far more useful than the ALT+SPACE key. Not always that great if you have a dinner plate next to the keyboard, though. ;p

Thanks for info, guys. I now have more stuff to think about at 2:40 AM.

The customising should include having your company's name indelibly printed on the board. That would make it easier to expense it.

The order is sent. I finally decided to order only one keyboard, Customizer 105, keys printed with Czech layout. It would have certainly been more geeky to have blank keys, but nobody else could use my computer then. Should I like the keyboard and the buckling springs a lot, I may consider to buy another blank Unicomp keyboard later -- or is there anybody else who sells keyboards with blank keys (n.b. as full Non-US layout 105 keys)?
