I emailed Majestouch a few weeks ago before I ordered my (sadly not otaku) tenkeyless brown, and he said he's had an order in for blank key caps for awhile, but the factory's been putting special items like that on hold in order to meet growing demand for full keyboards. So you can blame the StarCraft nerds not only for the browns always being out of stock, but also for there being no blank key caps available.

Hopefully the factory will catch up to demand soon and fill Elitekeyboards' order of blank key caps.

Hey, Blame Fwiffo for claiming the keyboard Fruitdealer used was a Majestouch instead of a Zero.

That aside, not all of us got Browns. I picked up a Blues keyboard. And it is magical.

Though I would like to pick up a Tenkeyless Filco at some point, possibly a Brown switch one.

Yea I've given up for the time being on blank keys. EKB didn't have any in stock so like you fssbzz, I went on a huntin spree and came up short :(. Wish the US had more options on where you can purchase nifty keyboards/caps. All we got left is clickclack and his pimp key caps!

and i talked to DAS, ask if the have the Ultimate Das Key cap for sell.
they don't have any, but ask me if i want to ship back my kb and change for the ultimate kb, but i must cover both shipping.
that might be a better choice.
but if i ship it back.. i will suffer a lot.
i cant live without typing on cherry mx brown a day.

google chrome = best friend when ordering from sites in a different language.

I then use http://translate.google.com/ for the confirmation emails (if they are in a different language as well)

nice find btw!

I do mainly web development so use the keyboard more. They didn't give me a new one at that :(. I saw a faded space bar and a few other keys which led me to bring in my own snit.

My life has been changed.

Well, not really. But this whole thing over the browns is a bit much. More so when people that don't touch type want them. Or people thinking their APM will be better as a result; I find it all hilarious.

And if you want someone to leave your keyboard alone at work, just get Colemak or Dvorak legends. Or do what I use to do, and leave a Qwerty keyboard plugged in but have the OS use Dvorak. People can't handle key strokes not matching their legends.

Whats that mean exactly?

I think that means they don't have the layer applied to the ones stock on the boards that covers the printed legends. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Filco puts an extra layer on the key to make the whole top face matte instead of coating just the legend letter/symbol, for prettiness and evenness I assume.

Ah okay.  Isnt that a good thing?  I heard that coating wears off after a while and the keys look all splotchy

Well, I originally posted it as a joke, so I hope it's hilarious. I was just watching the GSL, and thought I saw a red Esc key, and then there was a close-up, and I'm like "holy crap, he's got my keyboard!" I didn't expect to change the world.

well in sc2 nerds' defense, id argue that the keyboard is more important than your mouse, unless youre a noob and dont use hotkeys or have ultra low sensitivity

im glad that people are getting into the market of better keyboards because of fruitdealer and other koreans who were seen with filcos, should create more competition like the new zowie.  i am surprised so many people were willing to drop that kind of money on a keyboard that doesnt look flashy though.

That shot of FruitDealer was the reason I started looking into Filcos. Then I came here and found tons of people either thoroughly enjoying theirs or thoroughly hating the wait for theirs. Then all the reasons like those in the Filco vs Das comparisons made me get the Filco. I'm a SC2 fan (I mostly enjoy watching the GSL), but I don't play it enough to want the keyboard for SC2. It's mostly for the copious amounts of typing I do at home and work.

Yeah, Starcraft 2 was also the reason I looked into mech keyboards.

And honestly, playing with the Cherry Blues is so much nicer than on rubber domes. Makes you feel so much more speedy which helps a lot. Such a light and quick action. A bit noisy but for my German brown Tenkeyless I will have to wait some more. My wallet also thanks me for that.

So yeah, if you play SC2 regularly, it's worth it for that alone. Plus typing on that thing is awesome you you win twice.

Never played SC2, wasn't much into the first one. I'm really liking my buckspring compared to my Logitech wave (rubber dome). Expecting the blue and brown to be even better.

Hehe no, most of that wear is from TF2 where its all about go go go push push push.

Though it is interesting to see that it looks like i strafe/dodge left more than right =P

-------------------

Between SC2 nerds, and razer getting into mechanicals (which is how i found out about them) and those people spreading word of mouth, the demand for mechanical keyboards has gone through the roof in the united states and europe.

So while it does suck right now that its hard to nab a tenkeyless Filco brown...in the end this will mean its now worth it for other sites and manufacturers to get into mechanical keyboards and we will have choices aside from Filco, Das, Deck, Rosewill, Realforce, HHKB, iOne, and Razer.

If interest continues to build some capitalistic entrepreneurial business guy will get dollar signs in their eyes and open a site like elitekeyboards but will stock many different types, brands, switches and keycaps.

Then expand past gamers into business world by claiming your mechanical keyboards are proven to improve productivity.

The more interest there is the cheaper these things will eventually get and the more choice we will have.  At least for a few years until some American parent company buys all the smaller guys and runs a monopoly unchallenged by the US government =x

I'm sure we all know some guy who likes golfing but he sucks at it.  But clearly its not him who sucks its his clubs.  So he goes out and buys a $8000 set of clubs expecting it to make him good.

There is a large subset of gamers who are the same way.

I think the peoples interest in mechanical keyboards breaks down into this:

Gamers looking for an edge
Coders looking for comfort
Typists looking for less strain and wpm
Elitists looking for self esteem
Nerds looking for luxury
Ancient nerds looking for the good old days

I'm sure we all know some guy who likes golfing but he sucks at it.  But clearly its not him who sucks its his clubs.  So he goes out and buys a $8000 set of clubs expecting it to make him good.

There is a large subset of gamers who are the same way.

I think the peoples interest in mechanical keyboards breaks down into this:

Gamers looking for an edge
Coders looking for comfort
Typists looking for less strain and wpm
Elitists looking for self esteem
Nerds looking for luxury
Ancient nerds looking for the good old days

Well compiled, Sir.

BTW, Ripster, we should really talk about your stash and negotiate.

Well, I originally posted it as a joke, so I hope it's hilarious. I was just watching the GSL, and thought I saw a red Esc key, and then there was a close-up, and I'm like "holy crap, he's got my keyboard!" I didn't expect to change the world.

Well, your post was brought up when I mentioned the Marauder gaming keyboard after I tested it at PAX. Which spurned me doing a lot of research on mechanical keyboards, because some people had mentioned mechanical keyboards before in the mumble server I loiter in.

So, in a round about way, I can thank you for prompting some interest in mech keyboards, but the final results are all my own research.  Unlike most people over at TL.net and OCN that just go "OMFG, BROWNS BEST BUY NOW."

And honestly, with a Browns board right next to me now, I have to say I prefer the feedback the Blues give quite a bit more. Browns just don't feel as crisp.

As for people thinking better equipment = better performance, everyone is this way in every field. Someone mentioned a craftsmen, and I think another great example is photography, where I see people get dSLR cameras thinking they'll suddenly be Ansel Adams or such, and their work just sucks and all they take is Bokeh pictures.

I got as far as the order details page on Armygroup, at which point Google Translate completely craps out. It doesn't like those dynamic forms very much.

Maybe I'll try again later when I'm feeling more patient :)
