Seal, if you're here - did you blast the lettering off or buy blanks?  Great keyboard.

Today had to hack a bit on a friend's keyboard - the nub on 'J' was worn off and almost flush. Now that's some rough hands ... or crappy plastics.

That's a damn fine looking Model M.  The 42H1292 is my current daily driver board.  I'm considering doing a bold mod because the keys on the numpad and left modifiers are starting to get REALLY pingy.  42H1292 rules all Ms!

I feel so stupid. I had 2 keyboards side by side when I looked at the product number and sure enough, I wrote the wrong one. This is a 1391401. eBay won't let me change the title either. Should I relist?

I think the 42H is one of the most underrated keyboards on geekhack.  They're newer than the 1401s and usually have a lot more rivets intact.  I have several with no rivets missing at all.  They also feel a bit lighter than a 1401, at least to me.

But I never believed that "older is better" axiom.

If I had a safe way to send you all my Model M's you would be a believer.

I used a 42H for 10 years and yes it was my first love in model m's besides the stuff I dont remember from mappy land back in grade school with the model M's.

The 42H is good in its own right very clicky very light on the touch.

But then I met Mr. 1985 very stiff and subdued clicks and very nice to type on again I felt this with the 1987 space saver and my 1986 is about the same but a little less stiff when compared to the two.

I will tell you this... and I am going on a caps lock rant:

I WILL ADMIT THAT THE MODEL M IS LIKE A BAG OF TREATS DOES NOT MATTER THE MODEL OR THE YEAR YOU JUST DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO GET.

But no matter what, it's going to taste good.

I have 2 filco browns, and I have been souring on them a little because I make far less typos on my M's.  More often than not, lately, I have been typing on my minis.

One other thing I like about the 42h, btw, is the minimalist labels for capslock, numlock, etc.

My 1985 Model M is noticeably stiffer than any other Model M I've ever used. It's also nearly 25% heavier than some of them.

sealcouch, what happened to the keyboard? You canceled it and never put it back up.
