I got it from ncbound10.

First impressions:

The Good
- I love the sound better than the Customizer
- Arrived fast

The Bad

- Cleaning job is not the best one
- Packaging was scarry. Let's just say it not protected in a good way.

Enjoy that model M

I've got some cleaning to do to mine. May just do it once my other keyboards arrive.

NCBound10 is a pretty mediocre Ebay seller.  I dislike the way he tints his pics blue.

That said, I did get an AEKII from him that was non-yellowed.

Talking about yellowing. Why do Model Ms don't become that yellow?

I have to test mine  a bit. Excel 2010 is printing some dots above my letters.

The yellowing all depends on the additives added to the plastic.  Bromides.

Almost all plastic in the end, modern or vintage, PBT or ABS,  will turn yellow or at least break down with enough UV exposure.

It's not his camera.  Some pictures are tinted, some aren't.  Check out the mini he has up on ebay right now- not tinted at all.

I don't know if it's psychological, but the Model M (Lexmark) feels different from the Unicomp. The former has a more pinging noise, whereas the latter has a more clacky noise.

I thought every 1391401 came with a speaker. I cannot see one from the outside.

It's no psychological, the older boards tend to be pingier and "looser" feeling. I think it makes them feel better.

That's exactly my feeling right now.

Edit: nope, AFAIK no 1391401 came with a speaker. They all have the speaker grille, but no installed speaker. It was used for some RS/6000 version of the keyboard, and possibly a couple terminal varieties (??) but not the "PC" line units.

Thanks for the info.

Quick video of my Model M. I know the lighting and camera angle are not good, but I had very little time to do this and my main goal was to get the sound as faithful as I could.

Is it normal for one of my CTRL key to be a single keycap? Same applies to Caps Lock?

Well my 1391401 (93, Blue label, Made by IBM) has one keycap for Caps lock, but has a two piece keycap for Ctrl and Alt.

All of mine are 2 piece, except for backspace, as far as I know. I didn't check capslock though. I'll do that tomorrow when I go in to work.

I have a mixture of grey and white stems. I suspect the seller replaced them. Who knows? As long as the keyboard is working, I am fine. Unless the grey stems are for the grey colour keycaps. I did not check when I pulled my keys for cleaning.

EDIT: One thing I noticed recently is that the Model M seems to be slower when I have my Shift and down arrow keys held to select a bunch of messages in Outlook. The selection is much faster with the Das.

I have the impression that Model M keycaps become dirty quite fast.
