ADB to USB or PS2 adapter?
« on: Wed, 24 November 2010, 18:47:01 »
I'm looking to buy an adapter for an ADB keyboard so I can use it with newer computers that use USB or PS2.

I've heard that not all of these converters/adapters work for keyboards as they "map" differently...

It would be of great help if someone could just point me in a general direction of how much it is going to cost etc.

Thanks in advance!

Already impatient for an answer after 15 minutes?

I don't know the answer to your question, but try searching the forums for historical discussion and see what you can find there.

A quick search yielded a number of hits: 1st thread, 2nd thread, 3rd thread, 4th thread, and 5th thread.

WHOAA?!! Where did you find them??!!

I searched for simply "ADB" and I got no hits...that's weird...

If there was a REP+ button I would press it  but sadly I don't think that kind of system resides here....

Thanks very much! Sorry about being impatient! I'm about to bid in an auction.

Rep is determined by how many keyboards you packing!

There's no good way to search this forum for things like that. The site search doesn't index 3-letter words (ADB, PS2, USB, ...), and Google returns a million useless hits from people listing their collections in their signature block.

Except that we're talking ADB to USB here and not PS/2. An ADB-to-USB adapters wiki would have only a single item.
IBM Model F XT + Soarer's USB Converter || Cherry G80-3000/Clears

The storage list:
IBM Model F AT || Cherry G80-3000/Blues || Compaq MX11800 (Cherry brown, bizarre layout) || IBM KB-8923 (model M-style RD) || G81-3010 Hxx || BTC 5100C || G81-3000 Sxx || Atari keyboard (?)

Currently ignored by: nobody?

I think there's a less common Belkin, too, plus another basically functional but quirky adapter. That would make like 2 and a half.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

The Belkin is cheaper, but I don't know if it works with Windows 7. I bought one and it's on route. Once I get my Apple Extended Keyboard, I can test the adapter.

Unfortunately, I will be in the opposite situation. I will have the adapter but not the keyboard. I am still waiting to get the keyboard.

:lol:

This can't get any more annoying rofl.
When are you expecting the keyboard to arrive?

I might just go ahead and buy it...it's only $10 and I suppose I can get a refund saying it's "defecitve" if I can't use it....

I doubt the fleabay powersellers selling these things even know what ABD is so I guess I could just get a refund?

Thinking....thinking....thinking.....

I don't know. I found an "Apple Extended Keyboard" in the local ads, and called the seller. She agreed to set it aside for me. I don't know that the keyboard looks like, there was picture. I gambled since it was only for $20. And since she lives about 1.5 hours from where I leave, and that her husband and sister sometimes have to transit through my city before going further north, one of them will bring it the next time they need to go up North.  Free shipping in a way.

That said, I am meeting with one of a member here who lives in the same area as I do but in about a week or so. He has an AEK II.

I bought mine from a seller in UK. The overall cost to my door is $27 (CDN). I don't know if I'll need to pay taxes once it's here.
