Filco Retailers for DE Layout Keyboards?
« on: Mon, 29 November 2010, 11:28:37 »
Hi geekhack :)

i've been looking around the internet for a new keyboard to replace my razer tarantula. I really would like to replace it with a mechanical keyboard.

I thought about the razer blackwidow ultimate but i can't get any information about the durability of the keys (ok maybe its a bit early) or the avaiability of the ultimate with DE layout. Since i kinda like the backlighting (yeah, beat me :D) i was wondering, does anyone know anything about a DE layout ultimate?

I really like the filco (blue) so far but i cannot find any retailer for the DE layout filco.. (except keyboardco.com but they're out of stock and back in a couple of weeks but i'm impatient :P). And the only german retailer i know of, getdigital, only offers US layout filcos.

Is there any other retailer offering mechanical keyboards with DE Layout, the filco in particular, for germany?

Thank you very much :)

So far the only shop that sells Filco in Germany, is getdigital.de, but those are US layout.
They are selling them on eBay and Amazon marketplace too.
But I think it's not a big problem to buy from keyboardco since you won't have problems with customs like shipping from the US

I was also on a search for a German Filco, but the only way was to get it for like 150-170 EUR. Look at Amazon.de: http://www.amazon.de/Filco-Majestouch-Profi-Tastatur-Switches/dp/B003Y3S72I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1291053755&sr=8-2

160 EUR for a Keyboard? As much as i wanted a Filco with German Layout. Imho thats to expensive for just a Keyboard, because it actually does only cost around 80-100 EUR actually. But all the shipping costs and extra costs for the German layout etc. makes it that expensive.

Imho its not worth it just because the Name FILCO is on it?! You got a rubberdome? Trust me, every Mechanical KB will be an awesome upgrade to that! Look at Razer BlackWidow or Steelsereis 7G/6gv2.

My 7G costs ~90 EUR on Amazon.de i find it totally worth it. Blabla black switches blabla, yeah maybe browns are better. But IMHO i dont pay 80EUR just for having a Keyboard with FILCO on it and brown instead of black switches. The Steelseries 7G is a great Keyboard, especially the WristRest is just awesome! I would get a Blackwidow but they got Blue Switches and i really find the click sound annoying as Hell! :D

Hopefully we can get Filco KBs in the Future for normal Prices! I really hope so.

greets

edit: btw. BlackWidow NONultimate GER is av. at 03.01.2011

I just saw that blues with DE layout is sold out at keyboardco, but fortunately they have browns in stock. (strangely enough now that brown switches seem to be hyped right now)

And shipping isn't really too bad within the EU, 12,49GBP are about 15EUR

Well i don't want it just because the name "filco" is printed on it.
I just like the overall look and design of it.

The DAS i don't like because the top of my keyboard lines up with the foot of my monitor which is very wide
and if i would place the DAS on the same place where my old keyboard is.. it would be angled because of the USB hub.
But maybe it'll fit :P It doesn't look too shabby ;) But the filco is my fav at the moment.

The razer i kinda like.. but i'm very sceptical about the keys. You can see they are just laquered white keys:

Maybe i'll go with the non-ultimate? I really don't know.. i liked it because it has a design that i like AND backlighting :)
Which i prolly don't use/need but i guess i'm a ***** for that kind of stuff :D

The Decks..well.. i just can't look at these, sorry, no offense @Deck fans :)

I'm afraid they'll wear off.. and they are rumored to be rubber-coated like the lycosa/XArmor..
But to be fair, the printed keys on my tarantula are as clear as on the first day (the keys are shiney though :))

A Steelsereis is pretty much the same "design" as Filco, very standard. If you care much about the switches and really want blues. Get a Razer man, nonultimate for less than 80EUR once they are available. Good Price.

And about the Shipping Costs... yeh 20 eur shipping costs but they Keyboard it self is like 130 EUR. Just because it is imported and special Layout (german). if you compare the original Prices then it would actually cost around 80-100 EUR and not 150+ EUR. or 160 without shipping costs at Amazon.de.

If you are rich, get such an epxensive Keyboard, if you care about your Money get another KB for 50% less the Price.

Well honestly.. i'm not rich, far from it but i'm willing to pay more for a keyboard if it lasts for years.. and i'm just not sure about the razer anymore with all the fuzz about the lycosas and whatnot..

If one really wanted to have a board with blues as inexpensive as possible, one could go with a plain ol' G80 to begin with...
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

Not really a good deal but...

Thank you :)
But unfortunateley thats just the ebay listing of getdigital. It's the QWERTY US Layout :)
But there's a DAS Ultimate "with" DE Layout.. not exactly what i wanted but for a good price, why not.

Well, yes, the G80.. i learned 10 finger typing on one of those (with blues as i now know) in my fifth year at school.. and i loved it and i always wanted one of those but i didn't have internet and the knowledge back then ;)
But i don't like the build quality, the design and the SIZE of that thing :)
