Hello,

I've been researching mechanical keyboards for about a week now. I ultimately decided on a brown switch, as I type about as much as I game, and quite a few people said that blues aren't too great for gaming. My budget was/is pretty tight though, and I'm terrible at waiting. I ended up getting a Rosewill with blue switches for $100. However, it missed its scheduled shipping date, so I can get a full refund if I want to. This is where the decisions come in.

My first option is to keep the Rosewill and hope that blues aren't too bad for gaming.

My second option is to get a brown Das. I didn't know about the educational discount until today. Assuming they still offer it, it would cost roughly the same price as the Rosewill. This sounds great, but the glossy finish really turns me off. If it's half as bad as the glossy finish on, say, a DS or PSP, I know I would hate it.

My third option is to get a brown Filco. It's $30 more expensive and currently out of stock. Overlooking price and availability though, it's my #1 choice. It's brown, matte, and would give me more desk space.

I'm one of those people who can never make a decision for themselves, so I'd appreciate it if any of you would share your opinions on the matter.

Thanks in advance.

I've read around that some people have issues with the release point/actuation point on the blues thus making double hop and some other functions in games an issue. I have both and cant tell the difference in gaming really. I only play fallout so my testing may not be as valid as others.

As far as build quality I lean more towards my rosewill.

In the end its up you. Which ever you stick with will be good. Both are good boards.

Also note, you dont have an option for "Get both" so I chose other.

Browns are marginably better for gaming than blues.

High reset point sux0rz

Blues are great switches, and work well for gaming. The Rosewill is a fine choice.

Sage advice, Ripster.  It's a shame, though, even if you can make a decision, the wife, well... you know.

If you can't make a decision for yourself I recommend a wife.

Coffee all over desk.

That aside, I play a lot of StarCraft with the Rosewill. And I love how the Blues feel for most games. And before you say "the Keyboard isn't used that much in StarCraft," it is at high levels of play. A lot.

The reset point being a bit higher isn't really an issue, at least if you are use to lifting at all when you double tap. As for FPS games, I did slightly prefer Black switches. Just ever so slightly, but did not like how they typed compared to the Rosewill.

I'd say keep the Rosewill for now. The audio feedback makes them feel very crisp compared to Browns, where as the Browns feel a bit more vague because the tactile point is quite "soft" I feel.

Alas, you will ultimately end up with both switch types at some point. Just kind of how it goes. And then you'll have a favorite switch, and you'll want to fight those that don't like it, and all will be good.

The XArmor U9 is coming out in January with MX browns. I have a prototype and it's a decent keyboard. If you're going to wait then it's a good choice at its prospective price point.

1. Keep the Rosewill to try out if you like the switches or not
2. Despite on your opinion on the switches, buy a new keyboard with different switches
3. Put the older keyboard in the closet so you can swap keyboards sometimes in the future
4. Repeat steps 2. and 3. until your wallet is empty
5. Gotta catch em' all!

you should try for yourself and find out instead of making a decision based on other peoples opinons.

Unfortunately a wife is below a keyboard on my list of things to get.

I did decide, and I was fine with it, but UPS being terrible gave me a chance to refine my choice. I also didn't know about the Das discount until today.

I think I'll be sticking with the Rosewill based on what you guys said. Thanks.
