I'm in love.....
« on: Fri, 03 December 2010, 14:08:49 »
Totally in love.

With the HHKB pro 2.....

With one MAJOR disadvantage, I read it on the GH board but I never thought it would hit me : the layout on other boards.

EVERY other keyboard I type on after being used to the HHKB makes me mis-type the special keys like control and backspace.

Ah well, you can't have everything.... :-)

Regards.

Make the portability of the 'board work for you.  Get a case and bring it along!

I can always jump on the HHKB with no problems.  Going back to a regular keyboard is always difficult.  "\\\\\\\\\" FTW.

I definitely know what you mean.  I hate having to leave the home row to hit backspace on other boards.  Maybe that's just me having relatively small hands or something though.

And people mock me for wanting more keyboards in that layout. At least I could get my Unicomp in the "proper" layout.

And I have a collection of mostly functional rubber dome keyboards in that layout, as well (Sun type 6 USB).
HHKB Pro 2 -- Custom UNIX layout Unicomp Customizer 101 -- IBM Model M 1391401 (modded to UNIX layout) -- IBM 1397000 (also UNIX layout) -- SSK in UNIX layout -- Model F 122 key in UNIX layout (Soarer USB "native")

I love the layout, not the key feel.  That's why I ultimately end up using some other 'board.  Key feel, for me, edges out layout.  Not by much, but enough that I'll break out something else after awhile.

If I wanted HHKB's for all of my computers, I'd be spending over $3000.

And I'm saying you can get that layout, in other keyboards, for a fraction of the cost. But at other costs, such as switch tech, size, etc.

It's all about priorities. I'm thinking, long term, I'll just get Unicomps for my workstations, and HHKBs for my laptops, and call it a day. Definitely love both.

And definitely hate the first few minutes or so of using other layouts, with the \\\\\\ thing happening all the time.

The trick is to pick a layout and stick with it.  You can autohotkey corner keys as long as they exist.

Whiterice has convinced me to man up and order this thing (since none of you will)

In addition did you get the lockpicks, or the kitchen timer shaped like a cock?

You have a kid so you should get him a crossbow.

And this is why the Noppoo + AHK script should = the ultimate win.  Cherry browns, Almost HHKB size, dedicated arrow keys.

I think that KBC HHKB/Miniguru clone will be better  but we'll see.

PCB mounted, better.  No arrow keys, worse.  Smaller, better.  I'm in the didjamatic camp of loving the HKKB layout except lack of arrow keys.

My experience with the Boscom 122-key shows me that I have a tough time switching keyboards. At least, I had a tough time going back-and-forth between a 101-key Model M and that 122-key. However, I have no problems jumping onto the various laptops I have.

Odd...

I wonder if you can swap out the keycaps on that little keyboard with the white ones on an Apple Keyboard. I tend to like the Apple ones, but the white keycaps drive me nuts, they get dingy so quickly.
