Ducky keyboards, what do you think?
« on: Thu, 09 December 2010, 02:15:48 »
Hello. Recently I've been trying to become a Ducky sales representative here in America. So I would like to know, from you guys, what you think about Ducky keyboards. Any questions or specific models, key caps, and/or switches you guys prefer, please let me know. Thanks, any feedback is appreciated.

kbc has dye sub keys ?? link plz :D

@stradivarius

I like the look of the dk-9008. The only issue with it is the led integrated into the keycaps. So people wishing to use other keycaps may not like that. But the stock keycaps are pretty decent so might not be an issue for most people; as long as they like the default look.

But if your talking about 10keyless keyboards; i think the Leopold and Filco may be better choices. Leopld is you like the default look (has better keycaps by default compared to the Filco); and Filco if your going to install your own keycaps (better look as the led is not integrated into the keys like the Leopold is)

Filco/Ducky/Leopold all come with choices of black; blues and brown; and as a bonus they all support NKRO. So basically their all good for gamers and typists.

Another interesting option would be cherry reds; but right now even Ducky only has mix reds; not fully reds. The only full red switch kb i know is the Cherry g80-3494 :/ Theres probably another but i can't remember the model name (maybe it was a plum ?)

I think Ducky needs an American distributor. And a new name for the US market.
I love the logo, don't get me wrong, but I don't think a name that rhymes with "sucky" would bode too well with the younger crowd.

or Ducky 1087 with Leopold-like case= Lucky/ Filco-like case= ****y (I like this one)

Why i think Leopold EK looks better than the Ducky 1087

1. the rounded led lights on Ducky is fugly. I much prefer the Leopold's (which looks exactly like the lighting on the Ducky 9008. But like i said; if your intending to use your own keycaps; the Filco may be better in that regard.)

2. The leopold uses the same casing as the Filco but is more refine as in the side edges are rounded off which looks great. Also the casing may be better than the Ducky in the sense that the keys are burrowed down deeper into the keyboard; than compared to a Ducky 1087 that sticks out more. It was Panda or someone who pointed this out. Not sure if it applies to the Dk-9008 i'm getting :/

3. Keycaps on the leopold also are pbt laser etched and judging from the pictures looks much clearer than the dull white of the ducky. More tests need to be done to check on durability :x but this may take time before users can report ....

4. I don't particularly like leopold and ducky logos; but the EK leopold option has the kb WITHOUT the logo. So that is a big plus over the Ducky.

5. Underneath the keyboard; i don't particularly like the Leopold look for the rubber feet. Ducky looks better to me :x

Other than that; the Ducky and Leopold are pretty much the same in terms of features like usb connector; NKRO; 3 choices of mechanical switches etc etc .....

So thats why i said Leopold overall is better.

Tenkeyless browns are all the rage.

I really like ducky's black on black keycaps.  Gives the Blank/Otaku look but the legends are there if you look hard enough.

Also make sure to carry replacement keycaps.  Keyboard snobs like to customize their boards.

Oh and carry numpads if they make them.  Tenkeyless is nice until you miss the numpad but dont need it all the time.

Yeah numpad like the Filco you pay extra for looks nice.

But i have to consider the cost; is getting that and the keyboard gonna cost more than getting a full 104 keys kb ?

Also i don't have a table gromet to organize my cables. that extra numpad is gonna make it messier to me.

2. different case
3. not confirmed yet
other than that: Leopold doesn't have integrated numpad and win lock (as if ppl really use this), Ducky is a lot cheaper.

Assume that you are willing to spend the $$, Leopold is better. Ducky 1087 works well as an introductory mechanical keyboard if you plan to spend more $$ on better built ones in the future.

I thought they said that the Leopold would be cheaper than the Filco 10keyless ?

Admitedly i don't know the pricings between the Ducky 1087 and the EK Leopold.

I would prefer another Realforce distributor...I think I speak for many when I say it would be nice to see prices a bit lower for these boards. I've always assumed profit margins are fairly low for Topre boards though. Don't know for sure...

we don't need more crappy keyboards! we need more boards to compete with realforce. My cheap feeling 1087 and my multi-problemed 9008 isn't going to convince me to buy more duckys. Plus I don't know why everyone is raving so much about a integrated numberpad!

Probably Majestouch buys more than them and gets a better deal. But so what - just buy more than he does!

I'll go with "acceptable substitute."  When you're entering multiple 10-12 digit UPC codes in queries and such, the number row just doesn't cut it.  When you're dealing with small numbers, like my CPA does, the number row is just fine.

I don't have a CPA.  Ripster's rich, biatch!

I prefer the keycaps on the Ducky - textured surface, font type, font size, font placement.  The case, however, is not as solid-feeling as a Filco.  I got compact and full-size versions of the Duckys and Filcos, quality would definitely go in Filco's favor for both of them.

Hey ripster, maybe I'm lucky, but my Ducky keycaps look cleaner & brighter than my Filco ones.  Of course, the CFL light bulbs in my room could be playing tricks with my eyes.

I guess they don't understand ur question...the non-black-on-black and non-PBT ones are lasered ABS (excluding the current 1008 with Chinese lettering, those are pad printed+ lasered)

Sorry, my camera setup isn't ideal (wobbly hands).  Still.... here's what I can show from my collection of Duckys:

From left to right:
1. Cherry G80
2. Ducky
3. Ducky
4. Filco

I didn't spring for the PBT option from PCHome, so I'm assuming these are pad-printed ABS.

Flash going off:

I thought the black on blacks were pad printed ? Anyway my Finnish friend just got his; he told me he wasn't too fond of the black on black keycaps :/

Wow they are selling the g80-3000 doubleshots by themselves just like you said

If i am not mistaken; the cherry kb spacebar won't be compatible with a ducky because underneath cross point is off center. I think the capslock key has the same problem but i could be wrong on that.

@jimmy919

Can you confirm whether the black on black is pad printed or lasered :X

my advice.
keep the horrible "ducky" name because it's just as bad as all the, fruitdealin, neste, marineboi korean guys.
So white boys here in the US will think, we'll these f-up'd named koreans are using these mech boards so i gotta go buy a similarly f-up'd named keyboard.

Logitech... naw sounds too ... logical
microsoft... naw sounds too techy...
das keyboard... naw too germans, germans suck at starcraft
razer... LOL only Chinese use razer and they get pwn'd
ducky... OMG stupid name i need that board.

Google Translate isn't helping me out much.  It says both "imprinted" and "engraved" for those keycaps.  I think it's pad-printed, and then they do some UV-coating trickery on top.

Yeah well.  It seems to me now most Pandas are in zoos forced to watch Panda Porn and pose for T-shirts.

The problem with pandas; the females are only in heat once every year and just for a few hours. Will she find a male in such a small window of opportunity ????

if that wasn't enough, apparently male panda positioning is equally important because they have such small penises (i'm not joking). So if the male panda doesn't do it right; then the female won't be impregnated !!! Pandas in captivity have lost their mojo in the fine art of kama sutra :X

And even when she gives birth; she only cares for 1 panda even if she had more than 1 cub. Probably because the canes they eat has very low nutrients so she doesn't have much to provide for more than 1 :x

If that is not bad enough; their poached to become chinese medicine or cuisine; or a fur rug/coat.

Pandas have it tough :bathbaby:

The good news is that the Chinese have managed to make panda breeding much more successful. Giving panda free pron videos; and also tricking the mother into feeding more than 1 cub by switching them around at timed intervals.
