Help Needed: Owners of Unicomp Customizer 104/105 USB
« on: Sun, 12 December 2010, 16:29:21 »
Purchased a customizer 104 usb from unicomp a month ago. Just plugged it into my new computer and for some reason it burned itself out. I found the resistor that burned out but I cannot read what value it is to replace it. Is anyone out there able to tell me the value/color of the stripes on the resistor at the R10 spot on the pcb board? I believe the first stripe is brown and the last is gold. I can't read the two in between. Thanks.

1st Post FTW!

If it's only a month old, call them up. They usually take pretty good care of their customers.

Also, welcome to geekhack!

I've already called them many times. They are not willing to cover it and are blaming me for damaging it.

I'd help, but I have a PS2 101, so...not the same. Sorry to hear about the blame game.

And they weren't willing to give you info on the resistor either?  (or did you ask?)

Yeah, I already tried getting help from a friend but he had a PS2 one from 2007 and he didn't have anything at R10. I dunno if mine has it because its USB or its a newer model. Unicomp customer service has not been nice to me lol. When I told them what happened and asked if it was going to be covered they blankly said no and said that I didn't plug it into a "keyboard receptacle". It was hard enough just getting them to pick up the phone! I had to call every other hour just to talk to them. Their answering machine says that Jim Owens will be out of the office for a week but when I call back later he picks up!? Curse you Jim Owens!

No I haven't asked yet. They told me on Friday that they were not going to cover it. I didn't open it to see what happened until Saturday and they are not open on weekends. I will try to ask tomorrow (Monday) its such a hassle working with them anyways. If they pull some BS and don't tell me I'm going to flip out.

Just as a piece of advice, Jim will almost definitely have to check with engineering. He had to do that with my keyboard, because I wanted a different key layout. Don't flip out until after he checks with them. Or if he says he won't/can't check.

I'm surprised there aren't more people with USB customizers on this board. I wanted one, but could only get a PS/2 model, due to custom programming. Not sure why the difference, though.
