Emulating the cherry red...
« on: Mon, 13 December 2010, 06:19:18 »
Today I tried to emulate the cherry red with a cherry black and cherry brown switch by swapping the springs.

The end result is very close to the cherry red experience.

Here is a link to some pictures.

Regards.

Could you describe the difference in more detail? Which one did you like better?
Does it worth getting the red one, or modding a black one is a better option (I already have a black one)?

I also informed that is generally NOT recommended to open a switch as once you open a switch it will never "seal" perfectly and this changes the feel of the switch forever.
Did you experience such thing?

I dunno, I would think virgin switches feel better than ones that had their cherries (no pun intended) popped

Also un-modded keyboards usually have better resale value. I'm all about the resale value.

To me the modded black/brown key feels the same as the stock red keyswitch. Blind folded I could not feel a difference....
Maybe an expert on key-spring-swappings on the STN ( Switch Try Numpad ) sinklist is willing to swap one of the springs? That way you could try it yourself by subscribing to the sinklist :-)
