Deck used PCB switches in the plate-mounted Deck Legend

Just read something interesting here between Manyak and the Deck admin.

It seems that they use the PCB mount cherry black switches in the Deck Legend which is a Plate-mount board because it aids in assembly. [strike]I know for a fact that my TG3 BL82 uses the plate mount switches as it has the locking tabs on the sides of the switch to better secure it to the plate.[/strike] I guess once it is all soldered together it really shouldn't make much difference, but I just found this interesting.

On another note....should I buy a Deck Legend for $30 over MSRP from DataCal since they are the only ones who have it in stock? Performance-PC's doesn't know when they will have it back in stock and Deck's website says Feb 1 2011 (But who knows if that will be true, since it said Dec 8 2010 for a few months, until Dec 8 came around and they moved it to Feb 1 2011).

Also, I just got off the phone with Deck (or TG3 I guess I should say since they answered the phone) and the lady I talked to assured me that the February 1, 2011 date was a worst case scenario date. They expected everything to be ready by Dec. 8 but there were delays or something.

So apparently Feb 1 = worst case scenario...but will probably be available soon. Gives me time to decide whether I want USB or PS/2.

There are locking tabs for a plate on the sides of all Cherry MX switches. The only difference is the existence of plastic "fixing pins" to the left and right of the central pin.

Oh...must retract previous statement then. My TG3 BL82 does not have the plate mount switches then. Thanks for the info.

Whoah, that Deck forum post was old.

I'm surprised Deck is still in business.

Maybe for my 2011 Predictions I'll include their Demise.

I don't know...TG3 probably does good on the commercial market so the tiny division that is Deck probably doesn't require much effort to keep afloat. Plus, they are always out of stock it seems, so someone is buying them.
