Honestly, $46 difference between Realforce 103U and 103U-UW
« on: Sat, 18 December 2010, 02:50:32 »
Honestly,

What really IS the difference between the cheaper 103U-UW and the more expensive, not-including-as-many-goodies the 103U? Is one of lesser quality/make? Is one older technology...and speaking of older technology... even if it is older technology, would it really even matter when it comes to keyboards? Please shed some light, as I'm thinking of selling my 103UB 55g and picking up a variable weighted one. If the cheaper one is the same as the not-so-cheap one...I might as well pick that up.

Currently at Elitekeyboards
Realforce 103U $245
Realforce 103U-UW $199

I know there's no free lunch in life, so I ask, what's up with the price difference? Am I overlooking something?

Even prior to the sale, the price was cheaper than it's 103U counterpart, and the 103U-UW seemed to have contained more stuff with it too~

I think businesses in the US have an incentive to get rid of old stock by the end of the year for tax purposes.

I asked this before, and everyone told me that there is no difference between the two keyboards. I guess one is just old stock.

The 103U-UW and 103U are the same keyboard with different model numbers. The 103U-UWs are offered at that awesome price because we picked up a boatload of them at an unusually good discount when another distributor backed out of their original commitment for this board. Topre doesn't stock products in anticipation of sales; they only produce what is ordered. So they needed to move these boards, there are no other "angles" here.

Basically, EK would like to sell more Topres into the market; and it's a little slow-going when your brand name is new/obscure and your product carries a very high-end price. Offering this board for under $200 is a good experiment for us and a great deal for customers:)
