Just wanted to say hello... I've been lurking for quite a while. I'm a long time PC geek, or at least I thought I was, until I came here. Then I realized just how far down the rabbit hole actually goes. You see, I was planning to build a new PC, buying parts and such... when I decided it was time to get a decent keyboard for once. I was planning to buy a Das Keyboard, but I was a little confused about the differences. Started searching around until I came here and my mind exploded.

The problem is, I am sort of obsessive.

Anyway last night after careful consideration, I bought a Rosewill RK-9000 from Newegg. And I bought a set of blank Filco keycaps from the Keyboard Company, and a set of red escape keys and a key puller from elitekeyboards.

Welcome and good choice. Cherry blues are universally liked, and the rosewill is very well-constructed. Just don't follow my example. In 6 months I have bought over 30 keyboards.

Don't you hate TV-edited movies? I too was watching Pineapple Express on FX and it just isn't the same without all the cussing...

Well, I'm pretty sure I'm about to buy a second one already. I just have to stop myself from buying 28 more?

Once I got obsessed with waffle irons. Not just any waffle iron, mind you... but the vintage, 1960s General Electric A7G44 Grill and Waffle Baker. Not the similar one from the late 50s... the best one to get is the later version with teflon coating on the plates.

You might say it's the "IBM Model M of waffle irons." For a while I was getting these from eBay weekly. Finally sold most of them and kept the best two.

I also have five Hondas, three of which are 4th generation Honda Civics. A 1988 CRX Si, a 1989 Civic Si Hatchback, and a 1990 Civic DX hatchback. Maybe I should sell one of the better ones and buy myself 10 new keyboards or something.

Yea it's awful. Grandma's Boy beforehand was even worse - they took out so many scenes it didn't even make sense!

OP: Welcome aboard! As far as whether or not the waffle thing is weird, I don't think any of us are in an appropriate position to judge obsessions.

TV edits don't make sense. At one point during a TV edit of Anchorman, they changed Burgandy's remark of Christina Applegate's posterior to "Look at that hiney" (because, you know, butt is such a bad word).

Then, immediately, Brick goes "Hehe, he said butt" (which they didn't edit at all!)

The Comedy Central edit of Bad Santa is worth watching if only for the minute and a half of occasionally interrupted silence during the department store scene.

You'll end up just like me; Bought 4 keyboards in the past 3 months, and I'm currently planning on buying at least 3 more. The three more that I've planned on buying are: A Realforce, Model M and a keyboard with MX blacks for ghetto MX red mod.

Yay EF Hondas. Anything interesting done to any? Those old Si hatches haunt me at Auto-X, stupid PAX adjustments on H stock...

Welcome. You'll soon be justifying buying keyboards with "it was too cheap to pass up" or "I need this for work" and so on.

Hello and welcome!

I think maybe the one common trait we all share is probably that bit of obsessiveness. Its probably what drives the exploration of details to the degree it does here. It's what sets apart the people you try to convert into one of two reactions, the glassy-eyed stare or the glimmer of recognition upon discussing ye olde model M.

Along with the wallet issues (I got bit by that bug pretty hard) I do feel you should also be forewarned that the people here can be a bit silly. Probably a product of obsession in general as a side effect. =)

Thanks for making me spend entirely too much money on two keyboards in a month and a bit (Filco with browns and a model m). Now that I mention it, anyone in Europe have a 105-key Filco with blue cherries they want to get rid of?

i bought a cherry brown and both topre realforce boards because i just HAD to find out which one i want the best (losing money in the resell process of course)

Keeping one of my realforce's, gonna buy a Cherry blue and hopefully that's it!

Yes, in fact one of them (the 1989 Si) took 3rd and 17th place at SCCA Solo Nationals this year (Street Touring). Unfortunately I was the guy in 17th, the co-owner of the car took 3rd. Here's a photo of me driving the car at Nationals this year:

The 1988 CRX is probably going to be our next Autocross build, and the 1990 is my daily driver with about 320,000 miles on it.

It is nice to see another Auto-X'er around, though I've not gone for ages. I drive an MR2 Spyder at the moment, but sometimes auto-x an E36 M3. Also dabbled with Honda for a bit with a B20 Vtec '93 Hatch, and had a 20Valve 4A '87 MR2 for a few years.

Pretty out of the loop though; what tires are the current favs for Street Tire classes this next year? I've got some fairly beat Kumho XS I kind of want to use at the start of the season....

They're not expensive at all, and are the standard by which other keyboards are compared.

Me too. I had a 1989 CRX that I finally replaced with a 2001 Insight. I had trouble parting with the CRX, so it sat in my driveway rusting until a tree fell on it and broke the windshield. I did eventually find someone who wanted it, but given the shape it was in by the time he took it, I kind of doubt it's being used anymore.

+1 for obsession. If it weren't for obsessive engineers, we wouldn't have any high-quality products.

If I have any advice, it's don't be afraid to sell stuff (to fellow GHers in the classifieds, or on eBay).

Collecting is cool, and I certainly have far more keyboards than I can use at once, but it's also not a bad thing to live with a board for a while, get to know it's quirks, and then pass it on to the next guy.

There are so many different switch types, layouts, keycap qualities, that you can end up buried in boards if you're the curious/investigative type, and aren't as excited about selling the old ones as you are about trying the new ones (and no one is).

Time to jump on the wagon myself and delurk.
Thanks to your guys' knowledge I was able to spot a great grab yesterday and ended up with 9 new/old mech boards for cheap. I'll be posting a thread about it, there's more where I got these and I wouldn't mind sharing.
