[US] Cherry G80 POS keyboard with doubleshots
« on: Sun, 19 December 2010, 08:21:35 »
Take a look.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200555581491

Accepted my offer of $35. The top row of keys are cherry clears, everything else is cherry brown. The main block keys are double shot. The relengendable keys are not.

If you do get it, it's called a Multiboard G80-8113, for when you go looking for the drivers for the card reader.

What makes you think this has double shots? it is listed as 'lubus' which should indicate lasered keycaps.

If you are right, I am all over this board.

What makes me think it is that I have one, and it has double shots on it.

There are even some cherry clears on this board.

Edit: Sorry about the quality. I can pull out my SLR if you want a better picture.

I know. That exact auction is where I got mine. It said G80-8963LUBUS-2, and that's what I expected to get. What I actually got was G80-8113HUBUS-2. When I asked about it, they said that's what they actually have, and since they are just "regional variants" they didn't bother to change the listing.

Interestingly, I can't find the part number they list ANYWHERE on Cherry's site.

Oh, and even weirder? The cherry clears aren't on all of the top row keys, either. Maybe they were replaced when the board was refurbished? I'll pull all the keys off at some point, and take a picture, but the clears are sort of scattered.

Edit: To be clear, the relegendable keys are NOT doubleshot. Everything else appears to be, though.

Ah right, that's the key bit of info... that you got it from that seller! :-)

Very strange about the clears, I think your hunch about them being part of the refurb is probably right.

Did you get yours used/refurbed from that seller?

Pretty interesting in getting one to steal the key caps from, but if those are the most worn thing on the board, less interested.

Mine is a refurb. And it looks brand new, honestly. Maybe a couple of keys have a very slight shine to them, but it's only noticeable at all if you go looking for it.

I'm actually really quite happy with the board. Still not a huge fan of cherry browns, but it definitely feels better than my kinesis board.

Edit: And yes, from that seller.

Ordered one from the same auction. Came with one double shot keycap and one clear switch. All of the rest were lasered and brown. Still happy with it as all really wanted were brown switches. Overall happy with the keyboard except the creaky cheap feeling cherry case.

Out of curiosity, did you end up with an 8963 or an 8113?

the op's keyboard actually had a different cherry code than the one listed in the auction. Whereas mine had the same code listed in the auction.

That's weird, as when I asked about it, he said what I got is what he's been sending out.

I guess I just got lucky!

Well, here's the auction listing:

Quote
P/N G80-8963LUBUS-2

I already have an 8963LUBUS-2, it's 2KRO. I believe (all of?) the 8113s are 6/NKRO, so if they're actually carrying 8113 and not the 8963s they have the auction listed as, it could still have *some* potential, even without guaranteed doubleshots. Both boards are apparently also labelled "MX8100" as their general/layout product line, if that's what you meant about receiving what was listed.

Personally I don't like how the navigation/arrow keys were re-arranged to make room for the touchpad, but the lasered keycaps over browns definitely are nice for typing on. Still, I've been having some trouble with using shift+ctrl simultaneously, so this might be a cheap short-term replacement while I decide what I want to get long term, if something better doesn't present itself. Assuming they're selling the 6/nkey boards and not more 2k boards like this one.
