How shiny are your Realforce keys?
« on: Thu, 23 December 2010, 12:53:32 »
I have all but decided to buy a Realforce, but don't want to deal with shiny keys in just a few months.  How quickly did your Realforce keys get shiny?  Anyone mind taking some pictures along with how old it is?  The more I think about it the more I am thinking I might just go with the white/grey version.  Those won't get any shiny keys will they

I sold my Realforce the other day. The spacebar is extremely shiny, this only took me a few weeks to get it polished to mirror like look. The other keys have absolutely no shine, not even one bit.

I think its safe to say Realforce keys are up there with the older IBM keys in terms of keeping their texture.

Thanks for the fast reply!  So just the space bar eh..?  Maybe it is not such a big deal.  But only after a few weeks?  I love the look of the black on dark grey, but if its not going to last I think I would much rather go with the white on grey.

It seems to depend a lot on the user or rather the user's sweat (or something similar). Some people take months to "polish" their spacebars, I usually get it done within a few days to weeks on a brand new keyboard.

I know ripster's Topre is also shiny on the spacebar, the other keys look fine on his too.

i bet the white.gray does not get as shiny as the black one. my black one is very shiny. especially the wasd and space bar and i don't even game.

i now decided this is just the way it is. so i am not going to be bothered by it.
realforce and hhkb are darn fine keyboards nonetheless.

Honestly the Topre keycaps on both the HHKB & Realforce seem about as good as you're going to get keycap-wise these days. Thick, textured & sturdy. I haven't felt a PBT cap on a Ducky, but I would be shocked if they were as nice as the Topre caps.
