Happy shoveling everyone (provided you've got as much snow as we do here - white Christmas is rare enough).
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

There isn't even much snow in that left picture .. or in any picture that I have seen recently of British airports. Hmm.. maybe the problem is that the Brits are trying to plow with broomsticks while we up North use something that is called a "plow". Bwahaha!

In Sweden, the snow is at least a feet thick. The temperature is between -10ºC and -25ºC. All airports are open and at full capacity, but most longer trips have been cancelled  because  they would require a transfer at either Heathrow or Frankfurt ... *sigh*

Snow shoveling is good exercise. And yes, we have plenty of snow. Piles at LEAST a good three feet. Need four-wheel drive.

Merry Christmas to all the GH members!

I'm actually stuck at home alone this holiday season...had some work to get done before end of quarter, so I stayed behind while the wife and kids headed off to North Dakota.

Facetime on the iPod Touchs works surprisingly well.  Just got off a half an hour chat with the kids.  :)

No, you need proper tires. I'm driving just fine out here with a front-wheel drive.

Yes proper tires are a good thing, but the snow is so deep here in some spots that, like I said, you NEED four-wheel drive.

Front-wheel drive, haha. Just wait till those little u-joints break. Rear-wheel drive is so much more practical: easier to work with in the motor.

I'm definitely not a car enthusiast. Owning a car in Finland is insanely expensive, so I just buy the cheapest possible car once every other year. The car has only one purpose; To move me from place A to place B faster than public transport, and my 20 year old cars tend to do that just fine even in these extreme winter conditions.

Wait this thread is about shoveling and driving in the snow now? Cool, two of my favorite wintertime activities. I personally like 4 wheel drive best when it comes to snow, but that is it, other than snow, mud, or rain, 4 wheel drive/AWL can suck my taint. FR or MR FTW. Currently driving a new FF VW GTI, the DSG 6 speed transmission is VERY FUN for snow and rain driving. Only scary part about the car is how low it is, if the roads aren't plowed, it is possible to bottom out on snow...

So anyway back to snow... I actually enjoy shoveling snow. I don't have much to shovel, and although I used to have a snow blower (from past home) I end up using a shovel just because I enjoy the manual labor. I think the snow is heavier here in Chicago than most other places too, though I don't know about Euro Countries, the Lake Effect snow we get tends to make for some very wet and heavy snow. Not quiet slush but just heavy and wet, makes for quick iceballs, and some mean snowball fights.

Well, imma gonna go now, It actually snowed a bit last night, so I am going to break out the coat, sweater, hat, gloves, boots and snowpants, and im going to shovel me some fresh snow.

Once again... Merry X-Mas GH.

I prefer to bottom out on my Realforce than on snow. Chicago is a cool city; I've been there once. Gets cold as hell tho.

All this talk of snow really makes me appreciate the +10°C temperature outside.  Mind you, the one day a year we get snow (couple inches), the whole city stops.  Greetings from the mildest weathered part of Canada!

I still have performance summer tires on my BMW too. *ducks*

West Coast rulez.  Even BC ain't as bad as the rest of Canada.

This is true for the southern bit at least.  I live 55 miles below the 49th parallel, pretty much due west of Mount Vernon, Washington (and barely 60 miles north of Seattle).  If you head out either north or east from Vancouver, the climate changes pretty rapidly.  It's a relatively small region that doesn't dip below freezing very often in the winter, but when it snows it melts quickly, then freezes overnight turning the roads into skating rinks for cars.
