KBC keycaps vs. Filco keycaps
« on: Sun, 02 January 2011, 15:18:25 »
I've been eying a set of KBC caps for a while, but they generally seem to come only in a 37-key set. The wiki has pictures, but I can't be quite certain, how close are the key profiles between Filco and KBC? Am I going to notice a huge difference from my shift/enter/etc and the letters?

I've been looking on taobao for some of the stranger colors, and just can't seem to find a full set. I've been eying these, but if you can point me at a full set in something like that color I'd jump on it. I'd prefer blanks, but the etched with no infill would work I suppose.

I have a Filco "otaku" so I've already got black blanks, was hoping to get something a little more out-there. I see tons of black blank, black on black, and black engraved, but looking for something in a brighter pink or purple.

Well, mine's a tenkeyless, but something along those lines... :P Looks good on the fullsize board, how's the key profile compare?

Also: I'm SO snagging these for my arrow keys, how could anyone pass these up?

They are kinda identical...
At least the alpha-key-sets, dunno about the full ones!

No, RMB, or yuan, is.

I almost typed rms, then remembered that unix-beards aren't a form of currency.
Current Favorite:  Noppoo Choc Mini with Cherry MX Blues
"Storage": ABS M1, Unicomp Customizer 104, Razer Lycosa, (3) Dell AT101W, GeekHack Space Saver
Other stuff: Razer DeathAdder, eXactMat

Quick bump for this, before I place my ever-increasing TaoBao order... Does Ducky sell a full set of their white blank keys? I've found what seems to be the white on white here, but had no luck finding a purely blank set.

blank set in white is a pita to find unless you buy a ducky with blanks.

Had a feeling that was the case... :/ I'd buy a Ducky, but I can't seem to find a 100% mx brown one, they all seem to do that brown/blue combo.

Best bet! All white caps 100% browns and cheaper than a ducky.

You are so my savior, I suck so bad at searching Taobao. I was picking up a labeled version of that, and looking for blank keys to put on it, totally missed they offered a blank version. I'll be keeping my "otaku" Filco for anything that I just HAVE to have nkro, but I don't imagine it'll be used all that often after this.

You're welcome
I was gonna pick up the blank version of the plu as well but settled for the engraved, I had the filco blank key set and wasn't all thrilled about having a blank board. It was fun...for like 2 days.

Be sure to post shots if you buy it. Think you'd be the third to order one.

I find it's helped me really learn my symbols better, been using a blank board for about 2 months now. It's also a pretty good way to keep people from poking around on my pc, in general.

Yea true, I liked it for that. But it was a pita when it came to coding, just couldn't remember where all the symbols were.

It definitely takes some time to get used to, especially if you code.  Even so, I prefer blanks because of the minimal look.  I know where pretty much all the symbols are, so it doesn't bother me too much, although it did take a while to learn.  When I get the chance to buy extra keycap sets, I will almost always opt for blanks.

The only exception for me (for right now) is my HHKB.  Blanks look so awesome but I didn't want to have to look at a picture of the keyboard for the layout since it's not standard, not to mention it has two layers.

Work: White HHKB Pro 2 w/ lettering
Home: White Filco tenkeyless MX Browns
Laptop: Black Filco tenkeyless MX Blacks

Those are  Fssbzz's KBC keys.

Lasered PBT.  No Infill.   What PandaR shoulda done in Round Two of the Geekhack Key Buy but he's in hibernation in some cave.

Edit.   Found him. And HE voted for ME in the Troll Poll?

i will totally forget that MO round 2 by panda. or choose some1 else to take over.
he just troll around, do nothing, and can't do much either.

FYI to op.
to find Blank keycap in taobao.
you can add this in your search

無刻印 / 无刻 = BLANK, no FONT printed.
白= White Color.
键帽 = Key cap

example type

Yeah, the slow progress on round 2 is why I've turned to just ordering something from taobao myself. I ended up finding tons of stuff I wanted, so it's going to cost me a bit more than I planned on, but I guess that's fairly common around here.

Yikes, just got my obook quote... Surprised at how cheap the PLU is turning out to be, shocked at how much I'm spending on the CounterStrike set. Oh well, the bf wants them, and he didn't complain when I spent $120 on my keyboard, even though he only uses a $30 ebay board, so I can't complain too much.
