Curious Question to the Geekhack Community

Considering most of us are keyboard aficionados, I was just wondering at what speeds the Geekhack community types at, and with what keyboards.

I type at an average of 102.943 wpm on a Razer Tarantula.

I would like a typing test app that just see's your words per minute as you type instead of regurgitating what's on the screen. Idk, but I'm sure I type better when I just let it flow versus just copying text I see on the screen.

I type anywhere from 40-80.
I've been at that level since high school and don't expect to improve on anything except accuracy. I'm fine with where I'm at.

I seem to have been typing less quickly and accurately since I started my new job where I am constantly using crummy old rubber dome keyboards...most of which seem to be grody...

I was up around 90-100 average with peaks over 110 but now I'm probably down to 70-80 or so.  If I tried to work on my typing on a weekend I could probably speed up and get my accuracy up again but I don't really need to type that quickly so I don't.

I type 60 wpm. I write far slower.

Incidentally, my typing speed has improved measurably since switching full-time to my Filco, without me putting special effort into it. Mechanical keyboards are not just for techophiles.

My official speed is 41 wpm but I can really type much faster.  Those typing quiz things make you read and then type, and when I type my own thoughts I can type much faster.  Is there a way to see how fast you are typing without using one of those stupid online tester thingys?

EDIT: Oh, and I am typing on a Model M. I almost never type on anything else anymore.

I tried it a handful of times, I'm hovering between 80-90wpm generally, with a low of 72wpm, and a high of 99wpm. Accuracy is lower than I hoped, but about what I expected, between 97.5% and 98.5%.

Curious on how you got the name for your typeracer account. Just a pun on ten-finger typing or related to Abercrombie's books?

On topic: I pull around 110-120 wpn on average.

Is it only me constantly getting confused by the disappearance of the words I already typed? I'd really prefer if they just let you see the entire result of your typing, and not just have this window focus on the one word you type right now. Perhaps the experts on copying text disagree - I guess if you got near-perfect accuracy (which I don't), it might be faster to not look at what you typed but just on what you should type.

I too would prefer to see everything instead of having the words disappear when I press space. I don't actively look at what I type, but since it's right beneath the text I'm copying, it's impossible to miss it.

I average around 95-100 wpm at the moment.

You say that like it's unique to you... everyone can type memorized text faster than they can copy, obviously. If you want to clock yourself, just start a stopwatch and write something in MS Word. When you're done, stop the clock and check the number of characters you wrote. Divide characters per minute by 5 to get wpm.

Anyway, my typeracer average is 70.

I've pulled off 90wpm before at around 98% accuracy, though nowadays I average around 60wpm for full accuracy on scissor switches.

I average around 105 according to typeracer, all of which is from my old scissor switch.  Trying it out on my new brown switch board, I currently average about 80.  It's pretty difficult to type on a new keyboard at those speeds, and I'm sure as I get more used to the differences (mostly having trouble with key size and spacing) I'll get back up to 100.
