Keyboard with rollover on gaming keys
« on: Wed, 19 January 2011, 08:47:46 »
Hello

I made a previous thread, but I didn't use the good words so it ended in a discussion about this, and in the end I'm still looking for a keyboard,  so I thought I'd make a clean thread without mistakes so people wouldn't cringe reading it.

I'm looking for a keyboard which has a matrix that allows me to press the 4 arrows + space and wasd + space at the same time, or which has key rollover on those keys. For 40€, robust for gaming.

I tried the Mircosoft Sidewinder x4 and the I-Rocks KR-6220G-BK, it didn't fit what i wanted.

You'll probably think about expensive gaming keyboard with NKRO, but I used to own "basic" keyboards (keytronic) which worked just fine. And that's the kind of keyboard what I'm looking for.

Sorry if I persevere, but this is the best place to talk about keyboards on the net, so there must be someone who has an idea :) Thank you

It's easy to assume that regular keyboards (2kro) work fine when in reality while gaming how well you do using multiple keypresses depends really how quickly you are doing it, how quickly you are "double-tapping" and in what order. However, I can guarantee that regular keyboards are not sending all 4 keypresses to the computer (when they are pressed at the same time) correctly. What you really need is a keyboard with 6-kro over usb. Check the aforementioned link in my sig for more info. (The one about 6-KRO, NOT the one about Taeyeon - she's mine!) Hope this helps.

keyboardlover I already read it

ripster Newegg don't sale worldwide, like most of sites from USA.... I'm french so I can buy only in Europe.

I can't translate "fickiness", but like I said, I used to own some basic keyboard which had atleast 6KRO... And I don't need macros screen and all that ****, just a basic keyboard.

Ok, sorry didn't realize that. Was just trying to help so please don't make any Molotov cocktails or destroy your fuel supplies on account of not knowing how NKRO works.

If you're going to spend the money, just go NKRO; the other "solutions" are not very optimal.

Otherwise, you might as well just wave the white flag and surrender to crappy keyboards.

Slow reaction, weird. My X4 did not suffer this problem as far as I am aware. Sounds like something was faulty, somewhere.

Biffluer, just going to come out and say it.

You sound like an *******.

Now that is out of the way, your keytronic wasn't any different than any other keytronic, which means you are not pressing all those keys at once despite how awesome gosu you may think you are.

You came in here, saying you didn't know that much and looking for advice, and all I've seen is smart ass responses and insults to people giving you actual answers.

Stop being a cheap ass and just buy an NKRO keyboard, since I don't think any have a matrix that support 10kro outside of the Sidewinder X4 (which you claim has latency issues lol)

Does the Roccat Arvo fits what I'm looking for? It says anti-ghosting (I know, bad term), but is it on arrows too?

Same with the Cyborg Gamer V1, very low price keyboard, is it any good?

Another suggestion: If you want a rather inexpensive (€19,90 buy it now for used stock) keyboard with full NKRO and double-shot keycaps that also brings a bit of authentic military-feeling to your gaming set, try the Marquardt HEROS keyboard. As long as you're able to live with the layout and find the means to adapt the plug to "normal" PS/2 (cut off an old joystick cable and an old keyboard PS/2 cable, solder four wires, you're done) it's a rather nice board to live with. The case color is much easier to change on these than on any other board since it's all aluminium - sandblast it, spraypaint it, treat it with a wire brush, whatever you like.

Yes I realize it says "Germany only" in the auction description, but I'm pretty sure he'll ship to France if you ask nicely (and pay up front), and if you're uncertain I could ask the seller for you.

Chris
Daily drivers at home: \'93 IBM Model M; Currently: Model F XT (hebrew layout), adapted via Teensy.
Daily driver at University: Marquardt HEROS miliary board.
Take-with-me-board: G80-1800 (blue/black).
Boards I don\'t use: DS 102W (cherry 1800 lookalike, waterproof industrial case with ultra-mushy membrane switches). Dell AT102W (don\'t like it too much, very uneven feeling - last chance is to teflon-coat the sliders)

Searching for a kb for ages it got me thinking what is the most important thing I'm looking for. Because for exemple, the I-rocks I had didn't have ghosting but the keys felt so awkward I sent it back straight away.

Right now I have the Cherry RS 6000 (Membrane apparently http://www.cclonline.com/product-info.asp?product_id=675) And I like the feeling of the keys and its reaction. I've stumbled across a thread here and apparently all the membrane keyboards are 2KRO.

So if someone knows a keyboard similar to this and with the features I want (key rollover or a matrix that register wasd + arrows + space), let me know please
