Which cherry Blue?
« on: Thu, 20 January 2011, 15:36:22 »
Hi all, long time lurker first time poster :)

Looking at buying a new KB to replace my ageing Logitech G11, At first I looked at the G19 but I want something thats nice to type on as well as being pretty :P

Ive had real trouble getting something mech and backlit in the Uk so have settled on 3 non lit cherry blue boards.

1: Razer Blackwidow - £70
2: Das Keyboard S Pro - £125
3: Filco Majestouch  FKBN105MC/UKB - £114

Now obviously the blackwidow looks like the easy choice, from what ive read its pretty well built, looks ok and had the blue switches I want.

Im just wondering if this is the "correct" choice, in the long run would I be better with the Das or the Filco over the Razer?

Thanks for any help or advice!

The Das and the Filco have N-Key Rollover which might be advantageous if you're a gamer.  Otherwise, just buy the one you think looks the prettiest or fits your budget the best.  They will all work the same if all you do is type.

Well I do play alot of games but if I havent had any rollover issues with my G11 I dont think its going to be a major issue.

Im just not sure the Das is worth 55 quid more than the razer. The filco looks better but then it wont match all my other shiny "1337" crap around my desk

Nope still no illuminated blackwidow, that was my original choice - credit card was burning in my pocket as I went to buy it but realistically its alot to pay for some LED's :)

I guess its got to be the BW, although I dont use the 5 squillion macro options on the G11 very often they are nice to have and with only a few on the Razer I wont feel like its wasted space on my desk

I love my Das.

But as everyone else has already said, if you're looking for a comfortable transition from the G11, your best bet is probably also your cheapest solution.  You get the best of both worlds!

Well any decent mech board HAS to be better than the g11, it felt Ok when I first got it and I like the backlight and media controls but after 3ish years of 8-12 hour a day use it feels like I'm typing on a damp sponge.

I have the black widow and Ive been having some problems with the key caps falling off easily. The space bar stays on by gravity only, and the the W, A, and D keys are all very loose. they were fine at first but a few months of gaming/typing has really effected them

I dont know if its just a problem with mine. but I dont think I would recommend the black widow. I think if you are looking for a nice cherry blue board you should try the Rosewill RK-9000. its only about $100 and not to hard to find. its pretty much a filco with a rosewill logo on it

Well I got the widow on saturday, No problems with keys falling off or anything.

Feels very well built - sold as a solid thing.

Wonderful to type on, feels great and I like the audible click which Im sure has sped up my typing. The Only thing I would change is the finish, would have preferred matt - as is its needs running over with a cloth every other day to keep it looking shiny :)
