put spacebar back from Raptor K1
« on: Sun, 23 January 2011, 09:28:26 »
Hello,
first i whant tell you, i cant speak good english, so sorry. :D

I have a big problem:
I buyed a german Raptor K1 keyboard and i removed the spacebar.
After i whant put the spacebar back, the spacebar is not like the first day.

Now the spacebar is louder, not smooth, rickety and feels like a rubberdome.

How to put the spacebar correctly in the keyboard?
What i have to do with the metal stabilizer or what ever? It just rest on the ground.

I heard this is the best forum for keyboards, so i hope anyone can help me. Maybe with picture or a video? :D
I love my Topre Realforce 105UB! The best Keyboard i ever had.

I'll post this in German for comprehensibility:

Normalerweise müssten unter der Leertaste zwei Ösen sein, in etwa wie auf diesem Bild:

In die Ösen musst die die Enden der kleinen Metallstange (Stabilizer) einführen.

I have:
Unicomp Customizer 105 German
Realforce 105GR
Unicomp Spacesaver German/Ansi hybrid(Current favorite)
I want:
Realforce 88GER
I used to have:

I dont have white grease and if i had, where i have to put it?
I dont know how to install the spacebar, so i dont know where i should put the grease too. :(

Its my first time i see a mechanical keyboard spacebar from the other side.
A tutorial would be helpfully.

I dont know what i have to do with the metal-stabilizer thing, its different. :(

You should just have to push the space bar back onto the plastic crosses. Make sure to push firmly over all the crosses to push them in properly.

Do the stabilizer crosses travel up and down smoothly?

The stabilizer looks OK.

Just push the spacebar down. It needs some force to get it into the stabilizer stems (left and right to the center, where the switch is).

On most other keyboards, the stabilizer is hooked into the key, which is not the case with Cherry boards.

Buy switches here: CherryMX

Obviously, you do NOT need grease to get it back to how it was first of all!

Check:
- stabilizer mounts secured to the pcb at both ends
- stabilizer bar is clicked into the mounts at both ends

They have a habit of popping out when you remove the spacebar, and it can be tricky to get everything back in place. But it looks OK in the pictures.

So maybe PrinsValium has it... they do take a fair bit of force to get properly seated again.

^^^ follow these instructions^^^

Here is how the stabilizer should look when properly snapped in:

@ripster
Maybe 7bit can make some good quality picture for this fix / swapping, because it looks like he has the same keyboard too? ^^
Cause i dont think my bad phone-quality is good for a guide. :D

@7bit:
Ich hoffe du kannst ein paar qualitative Bilder davon machen, leider habe ich noch keine richtige Kamera sondern nur mein Handy. :D
(my try of translation: I hope you can make some quality pictures from that, i dont have a good camera, just my phone. :D) xD

Ripster I found a Video that maybe you should add to the Wiki if you're OK with it just because it shows how to remove and how to reinstall too in the same video .

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZWYYa6kfhE&feature=player_embedded

Not a valid youtube URL
It shows how to remove the Leopold Shift which I think it's actually the same mount as in the Spacebar.

I think I might have the same problem but unfortunately the stabilizer is mounted under the metal plate.

If it is the space bar I guess you should be able to reach it from the bottom side between the plate and the pcb. Then at least you shouldn't need to desolder anything if you take the board apart. Is there no slot in the mounting plate to insert the stabilizer bar? Perhaps you could reach it through there. This is how cherry think it should be done.

Thanks for the tip it should really help.

Yes, there is a slot in the mounting plate, but only for the spacebar.
