Hey, first time poster. I'm pretty new to the whole mechanical keyboard thing. I'm looking to get one for gaming. I'm into the smaller keyboards mostly because I have no need for the numpad, so therefore I'd rather not get a Steelseries if I dont have to. I've been looking up a lot of keyboards recently, a few in particular, filco tenkeyless FKBN87ML/EB, Noppoo Choc Mini, and the Ducky 1087.

I'm just very unfamiliar about where to buy one in the US. I checked elitekeyboards but they dont seem to be selling any filco at the moment. Any suggestions?

Hi kurukq,

I would suggest your wait 1 month or so. Alot of GHers are waiting for EliteKeboards to sell Leopold keyboards. That would be a nice alternative (same quality as far as I know) to the Filco.

I have a Noppoo with MX-Browns. I love the keyboard except for the layout, wich is not a problem if you're gaming (except about the numlock that is used in SC2, but I dont know about this that much). Noppoo is USB and N-Keyroll over wich is nice to have for gaming in my opinion.

Do you know how much the Leopold FC200R will cost?

Oh boy, with shipping it's around $180. I was looking more around 130 max :(

I'm not a gamer, so someone else will have to answer.

I'm pretty new to mech keyboards and have only used buckling springs and cherry mx brown switches so far.  The cherry browns (tactile) are amazing for general typing.

I've been fps gaming (quake live) with MX Brown for 2 weeks now and I'm riding the actuation point now. At first, I was bottoming out every single key ( moving jumping etc). Not anymore. I enjoy playing with MXBrown more than on a regular membrane keyboard.

BUT... I think I would prefer MX-Reds. Hence, I'm looking for a tenkeyless board with MX-Black at the moment and I intend to switch the MXBlack springs with MXBrown' springs (from a Donor board). They call those Ghetto-Reds here and I think they might be better for (fps) gaming.

Also, I was a RTS player and I think MX-Blues /Browns are better in that case.

Cool.. yea, I play fps mostly, CS and some QL. I might go with the SS 6gv2, this keyboard at the moment is not cutting it and I need something that will, and I need it soon.

I might just end up going for the Steelseries G6v2, because I think the new kb's that will be replacing the filcos are probably still going to be priced too high for me. Does anyone have an estimate as to the price of the new ones?

particularly the Ergonomics section. I couldnt agree  more about the form factor. I dont like robber domes, but what I HATE the most is super large keyboards (for gaming...).

I don't like the steelseries but I understand your frustration. At first, I almost ended up buying it. But I resisted. In the past 2 weeks, I bought a Ducky (100$) and a Choc Mini (around 120$ if I'm right). Both found in Classified section of this forum. Perfect condition, almost new (1 month or less).  I'm super happy. Both are nice board for gamer imo.

I wouldn't buy a Noppoo if you're
a. a Mac user
b. uncomfortable with buying from a foreign country/company using a buying agent (intermediary)
c. are concerned about ever having to possibly return the keyboard

Leopolds will likely be worth the wait, and likely in the $100-150 range.

The estimate I've heard is "end of February" unfortunately. That said, EK's service is great. They replaced a board I ordered from them super quickly, and it made me realize that the high price of importing gets a lot higher if you have a board with a problem.
