X100e spacebar
« on: Mon, 31 January 2011, 21:46:19 »
Guess the Thinkpad keyboards really have been dropping in quality. After less than a year of ownership, the spacebar on my X100e won't reliably activate when hit on the right side, unless you really mash it.

Any theories as to what the cause might be, and if it's fixable? If not, how difficult is it to install a new keyboard on these laptops?

Swapping keyboards shouldn't be too hard, I imagine, not on a Thinkpad. I bet they still have multiple OEMs, so you'll want to look up which part number / FRU has the best quality.

Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

Oddly enough, my T61 went through a brief phase of this, then started working again as normal. Try reseating the thing a few times and blasting it with an air duster.
