Need photo equipment buying advice
« on: Tue, 01 February 2011, 07:43:30 »
I'm thinking of buying a macro lens and a flash kit for my Nikon D90.

I'll be taking pictures indoors most of the time. I don't have any additional lights. Considering a R1 or R1C1 flash kit and Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 VR lens.

Recommendations?

So basically I can save $200 by not getting a SU800 since the D90 also has a built-in Flash Commander. Is that the same lens I'm considering? :)

Which lense do you use for your Lego shots?

Ken Rockwell == MW.

I would like to add a macro lens to my kit, but Im not sure I would use it that much.

I NEED to replace this farkin' sigma 17-70mm (the old one). It's soft as all get out, and has terrible vignetting. Obviously, it focuses like **** too.

Thanks for the tip! I know this is a n00b question but what's the usable range of the flash units in the kit? I'm looking to take pictures of small items such as Game & Watch games etc.

Holy crap. How much does a setup like that cost? I'd be afraid that when the flashes went off I'd be transported to another point in the universe. Looks like a stargate.

Wait, didn't you just say that your D200 has a built in flash commander? :D

Unless Nikkor "micro" lenses do something weird, they'll work fine as an ordinary lens too - my Zeiss 100mm macro lens works fine for distance work.

You are correct, but my point was more that I have other **** to buy. That isn't a range would use a lot of (anything over 100mm X 1.5) unless it were for close-up work.

too tight (again, Im sure I would use it, but probably not often enough to warrant the $). I even think my 85 f1.8 is too tight in a lot of situations.

What else is in your kit?

I've made up my mind - I'll be buying the R1 flash kit without SU800.

Now I just need to figure out what lense to buy :D
