Hey all,
New guy here. I've had my Rosewill RK-9000 for a couple of weeks now and the key caps are starting to wear out. What I'm looking for is possibly a double shot injection type replacement set, provided I won't have to mortgage the house for them..lol. Love the keyboard other than that though...Any ideas?

probably fading.

My RK9000 's keycaps started fading after a couple of weeks as well.

Yup, paint is fading. I took a PH (piss) test and I'm highly acidic, so I assume that's a contributing factor to the fast wear....

yeah this makes me skeptical of picking up one over a Das Ultimate, although i could get blank key caps i don't really want to deal with the hassle.

I am interested in replacing my RK-9000 keys as well. Not really into the group buy round 3 color. Anyone know where I can get a custom set made?

If you're interested in a vintage look, check out these. Better quality than the Group Buy ones from SP (they are vintage Cherry Corp).

All keys should fit except the bottom row, but we've organized a group buy to fix that too.

Do they really wear out that fast? I just got my rosewill yesterday. That's kind of depressing

I already spent more than I would've liked on a keyboard, now I have to invest more into caps if I don't want it looking like it came from a garage sale? booooo

YIKES! that is way expensive. Are there any sites that sell pre-made keys? I remember seeing one or two overseas.

@keyboardlover - in the image your keys look white, is that the true color, or is it slight off-white? I might be interested in the vintage keys if they are still a nice white color.

They are indeed white; sixty cleans them before shipping them. I'm impressed with them. They are as high quality if not better than my realforce keys.

The original RK-9000 keycaps fade somewhat, not completely. I tend to wear through pad printing though - I cause noticeable wear (to the point where a key may not be immediately identifiable to someone who doesn't know how to touch type) on those labels on Microsoft/Logitech keyboards within 8 months. So I'm not sure how typical that is.

My Otaku Filco is holding up fine

(other than the chattering) and my regular Tactile Touch doesn't even seem to have a shiny spacebar yet.

And, obviously, my SP doubleshots from Whiterice's run are holding up fine too.

Yeah. I reversed the mods today just for that purpose. If I want another Topre, I might get another one, but I swapped back for a little while today, and it just didn't do anything for me. The Choc Mini I am going to mod with either a detachable cable or just a shorter one for portability. I don't really want my Cherry 'boards any more. If I want another Cherry, I might get a white one with browns from PCHome. The 1800's layout isn't everything I thought it would be, so I don't use it anymore.

Right now, the Choc Mini is everything I need it to be. When the Leopolds come out, that will fill my full-layout needs, and the Choc Mini will hit the laptop bag. When the KBC 40%/Poker is more widely available, I'll be getting one of those, too.

I find this thread odd. My RK-9000 caps show no signs of wear, then again I have only had the keyboard for a few months now.

I think everyone's experience is going to differ slightly, there are too many factors when it comes to wear. How much average oil production in the fingers, how acidic it is, how good the owner is at keeping their hands clean, and how obsessive they are about over-cleaning things.

But from a non-anecdotal technical standpoint they should wear on average as fast as any Lasered. key.

Also when it comes to anecdote online people are much more likely to post about their problems with something than to post about their satisfaction with it.

By the way, I sent myself into a probably obsessive-compulsive re-evaluation of my keyboard dilemma after seeing that the Filcos are back at PChome and reading more about the Das. But despite this I still pulled the trigger on the Rosewill today. I simply feel at the price point, convenience, and what I am looking for in a keyboard it meets all of my needs and delivers them at the best price and convenience to me.

At the end of the day there just aren't a lot of production keyboards with truly good caps. Except for the lovely Topres. That's why you see everybody going after used doubleshots, Signature Plastics doubleshots, KBCs, whatever.

I'm unfortunately bumping this thread to add myself to the: "I've had the Rosewill for a few weeks and have several keys fading" camp.

I've read the whole thread and I agree that it comes down to any number of factors. Could be just my bad luck of the draw on this particular issue.

I do try to make a point of always having clean hands before I use my computer but it is what it is.

Thankfully the keyboard itself is great and I couldn't be happier with it but seeing this fading this quickly is a little disappointing. Not the end of the world, though.

Interestingly enough, it isn't WASD being the worst offenders on fading like I would have expected being a gamer. SDFN> right shift CV and some other strays lead the pack on fading for now. Go figure.

Like anything else, for any one person having a problem and even one that's fairly insignificant like this there's many others with absolutely no problems at all.

Thankfully mine is hardly a severe issue. In some lights it's more evident than others and it would be easy to think that some of the keys either got a little dirty or discolored by some foreign element but that's not the case.

I personally still would not dissuade any fence sitter considering this keyboard.

When I get the time I'll see if I can get some pictures.

I'm bumping this thread because it's pretty much the first hit a lot of people get when looking for "Rosewill key fading" or some such.

On a whim, I went ahead and emailed Rosewill tech support last night about the key fading and lo and behold, this was waiting for me this morning in my mailbox:

I think you'll enjoy the RK-9000. I really like mine. If I start having issues I'll sodomize one of the Cherry boards at work for it's keys.
