Thanks for the info!

Bought myself a 104-key Filco Brown.  Looks like it left Taipei today. :]

Yep, my tenkeyless Filco brown just left today too.

Hope it'll be here before the end of the week! :D

By the way, anyone looking at Ducky boards now that the Filcos are out, some models (Such as the 9008) are shipping with a free wrist rest and mouse pad

Wrist rest (In black): http://global.pchome.com.tw/?mod=item&func=exhibit&IT_NO=DCAH0X-A50322882&c=A05&tm=u
Mouse pad: http://global.pchome.com.tw/?m=item&f=pic_show&pic=//ec1img.pchome.com.tw/pic/v1/data/item/201012/D/C/A/H/0/X/DCAH0X-A51116808000_4d01a46e0b617 (Looks to be Vantec branded, no leads on the actual product or what the switch is for)

I had my friend who lives in Taiwan order a Filco 87 blue for me, and I'm picking it up next week when I visit.  I hope a made a good choice of going with the Filco instead of waiting for Leopold from EK!

That is super fast :)

I placed my order on February 5th and my package is still in New York on February 10th, probably not going to get it for another four or five days I think.

Post pictures and let us know how you like your new board!

I'm from Vietnam, so it's understandable, it's only 3 hours flight from Taipei, straight to my city :)

They included a Filco key cap puller and yellow WASD cluster, plus 2 top row key cap with Filco printed on, one red and one black.

I took some pictures, here they are...

My impressions with PCHome, for those who still afraid of ordering stuff oversea...

- They ship quick, I mean they handling time is quick, I have three orders from them in the last several days (trying to clean up their stock lol), and all of them registered at the post office at around 3PM, so I assume they ship daily, in the afternoon. After that, my package will be on the next flight (my case, YMMV)

- They pack fine, they put your keyboard with original packaging inside a very big box, may fit three or four. Without enough padding, your keyboard box will be all over the place inside that shipping packaging. My keyboard box came out with a dent corner, however, the keyboard itself is totally fine. I would like to note that my first package from PCHome (today) has been opened for inspection by customs, so I'm not very sure whose fault is it about the dent corner.

- The whole package with one keyboard is only 1.68kg, but PCHome wouldn't pack three keyboards into one shipment, with the promotion shipping fee, that is. On the shipping slip, the postage is TWD1060, that means PCHome is paying almost TWD700, that's about $25 extra for your shipping fee. Just guessing, though.

- PCHome handling payment via Paypal is a little odd, look like their only provide Paypal the total amount, without any other order details. But don't afraid, your payment is logged in realtime and (I assume that) PCHome will prepare your package right away.

To round things up, my first impressions with PCHome are positive, I would definitely order from them again.

Nice, I'm glad the English versions also came with the yellow wasd cluster.  In the images on the site, it didn't show them for the English versions, so I was worried they weren't going to be coming with.

Side note, it seems that my package was shipped and is currently residing in the Chicago Airport for a customs review.  Would expect to see these with my doorman sometime early tomorrow :)  (Ordered 2/5, expect to receive on 2/11; FAST!)

@kacee:

That purple Filco key is very sexy!

Hopefully I'll get all the goodies that you received with my order too.  I'd love to have WASD caps as well as some variety ESC keys.

Since my package is traveling all the way from Taiwan to New York and probably to LA before Hawaii, I have a feeling I'm going to have a busted up, unrecognizable box if yours had a dent in it with a three hour flight from Taiwan to Vietnam :(

I know right?!

That's what I was wondering, because we have customs check in Hawaii.

Had they done that I probably would have had my keyboard by now.  You'd figure it'd be easier to send a keyboard over one ocean, not two. :(

Guess that's what I get for the $10 shipping promotion.

I finally found the tracking number by checking my order status. Thank goodness for Google Translate. Without it, I wouldn't know where to look and what to do. Anyway, it turns out that the post office had tried to deliver on the 10th, but nobody was home and I missed the delivery notice in the mail box. So it only took 4 days for PCHome to ship from Taiwan to Eastern Canada. I had to pay $20 though; the $10 special is only for the US. I can't wait to try out the Cherry brown.

It's Vantec, and it's crap, you plug in the USB pass through cable (included) you can use the switch to turn on/off the glowing light.

I have to pay $2 import tax for it and that's all it's worth.

I live within 15min of the US boarder, and ship to a US address frequently.  I was debating having it delivered to my home (Canadian) address for an extra $10, but opted not too for that very reason.  Now, however, I need to wait until Saturday when I can go pick it up :(

Who do you use across the border? I've been looking to set up with some kind of service out there. Any recommendations?

could anyone tell me if it makes any difference when:

getting a us layout tenkeyless + blank key set
getting a german layout tenkeyless + blank key set

in the end both would be the same? The positon of the keys are getting re-mapped by win7 itself anyway (depending on which layout/language i choose?) and there arent any keys printed on the keyboard anymore after using the blank key set.. so it would be the same or not?

thanks

There is a difference between the us-layout (104keys) and the german layout (105keys).
The left shift is smaller in the german/eu layout and the <,>,| misses on the us layout.
The Enter key is 2rows high in the german/eu layout and 1-1,5 keys large and not 1row high and 2keys large in the us layout.

The only place to get a Tenkeyless Filco with GER layout would be theKeyboard Company, but you'd have to pay almost twice as much. Do what I did, learn to love the US-layout, and remap the only missing key (<>|) to something you don't use so often, like Caps lock. No one really needs that key, at least not in a place where it's by default.

SHIPPING... SO FAST!

Took a few days for PCHome to check my payment or something. But once it's status was shipped it got from Taiwan to San Franciso overnight. Then I was worried because it said it was in customs, but after less than 12 hours it's status is outbound out of customs.

Gonna have my filco tenkeyless w/ cherry mx browns within a few days hopefully!

I'm supposedly also receiving a filco brown tenkeyless (I haven't said anything because I didn't want to jinx it).  It was shipped 2/28 but Canada Post only updates its tracking once per day.  It's entirely possible that I'll receive the package before CP says it's even arrived in the country.

Some other folks have reported good performance using EMS shipping from Armygroup into Canada.  Presumably PCHome will be the same.  EMS is a funny thing.  As I said in the Armygroup thread, Canada customs will often allow EMS packages to pass right through for direct delivery but send you a bill later.  There are several who have reported no fees ever being billed.  My fingers are crossed.

The next thing they're crossed for is that I don't hate Cherry browns!

Man, we are TOTALLY in the same boat! I'm -PRETTY- sure I ordered a tenkeyless brown from them, I'm just hoping that they don't ship me a dead keyboard or I've ordered the wrong keyboard. Why does customs send you a bill?

...because that's the law.  Anything declared over $20 gets assessed brokerage, duty (generally not applicable) and tax (13% HST for where I am).  If it's marked "gift", the cutoff increases to $50.  Note that it doesn't matter whether it's second hand, broken, being returned for repair, something you're borrowing from your uncle etc...  You're charged taxes on DECLARED value - period.  It's highway robbery a lot of the time, along with the 13% tax we pay on USED cars, even private transactions, based on blue book value or actual purchase price, whichever is HIGHER.

They don't always collect, but it's been years since I had anything over $30 slip by in the clear.  The Canada Post people are usually pretty forgiving about anything "close" to $20 - unlike most other shippers/importers.  The Postal service also has, by far, the lowest brokerage rates ($5 for regular mail, $8 for priority/EMS).  Once I had a used ebay car stereo show up via UPS with $70 in fees to release a $36 item.  I've boycotted UPS international ever since.

Or was your question why do they send a bill separately?  Normally they assess the charges and then hold your package for payment and pickup.  I've found in the past that in a lot of cases they don't hold EMS packages since it's a premium, rapid delivery international service and they don't want to add delay.  They still want their money so you end up receiving an invoice in the mail.

Others in the AG thread have said that a bill never came.  Canada Customs is in the right to send a bill and assess tax on packages of this value.  If they don't - you're fortunate.  Maybe they have leniency on residential addresses where it's not worth the extra overhead of producing invoices and handling collection until parcel values are much higher than $150 - I don't know.

Don't be at all shocked if a bill comes in the mail and, IMO, consider mentally marking AG and PCHome prices up by $8 + 13% (or whatever you local HST or PST+GST is) before determining if it's a good deal compared to something closer.  Oh, and we Canadians should send a big 'thank you' to both for using EMS instead of UPS or Fedex.
