NIB Black Cherry G81-7000HPBUS (doubleshot caps)
« on: Mon, 07 February 2011, 08:35:14 »
more than 10 available on ebay... new in box... $40 shipped

This is an "H" model, meaning High-quality (two-shot injection molded keys)

http://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-Black-Cherry-Keyboard-PS-2-G81-7000HPBUS-2-MCR-/220667131612

The board uses MY switches, but it has doubleshot keycaps that are compatible with MX switches.  Harvest the keys.

It's also worth noting that while the patch kit is expensive, the keys are not easy to find (scrapped from another keyboard) so we found it necessary to get them made from SP. If you think you might need them, I'd get 'em now =)

Although these may not be NIB, but if you're looking for key caps.

Nice...like the other one it would also need the patch kit to put them on a regular full-size keyboard.

Well, for a full size you would also need the bigger numpad 0 along with the patch kit.

So just for clarification, if I just wanted to replace the a-z and 1-0 keys on a Filco 10keyless...nothing extra is needed right?

If you care about modifiers:
You'd need a large RIGTH shift key, and it looks like ctrl, alt, win etc are single sized, so you'd need those as well. Check out MOOGLEBLACK in the group buy forum: http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=14698

I'm planning on replacing my filco tenkeyless a-z keys with the double shot ones, and keeping it otaku for everything else.

I ordered one of these boards from this seller almost a week ago. UPS delayed shipment because of the snowstorms, it's due to arrive on Thursday. I'll report back on the quality of the board / whether it's actually an "H". There have definitely been some instances of guys pulling one serial number and then selling a bunch of similar boards that don't necessarily have doubleshots.

Fingers crossed.

thanks.  I'll report back when I get mine also.

I almost feel bad pulling the keys and trashing the board.
some people seem to like MY switches and do mods to this board:

Okay, so I bought one from this guy, I posted this find a couple of weeks back in some other threads also.

The seller shipped the keyboard out the next morning and it was priority mail which took 2 days. Great deal altogether for only $25, some of the keys are a little shiny but most of them are in very, very good shape. I will post some picture in the pictures section.

for $15 more, you can have brand new in box.

I'm using old cherry PBT lasered caps from a similar board right now:

I like them... but I can't wait for my black double-shots.

post some pics of the caps closeup if you can.

are they the same as these?:

ya cgoldberg I wans't sure how well built these keycaps actually are so I didn't want to go all in on it. But now I am completed sold, these Cherry double shots are heavenly good for what they cost.

If anyone is thinking about getting them I would totally recommend spending the extra 15 bucks and get a brand new one.

For an update on the $24.99 + FS keyboard.

Here is a shot of the keys (the enter key was the only one with shine).

I bought two boards and the other board was damaged so I'm returning one that one.

For $15 more, save yourself the hassle of cleaning and potentially getting some worn keys.

Now....GO VOTE MOOGLEBLACK :D!

Finally received mine today after UPS delayed it twice due to "Adverse weather conditions" It's indeed doubleshots (like the ones pictured above). I went with the brand new board for $40.

I'm going to go and vote MOOGLEBLACK! (+ right Shift)

I did notice that the Costar stabilizers fit too loosely in my left shift key, and it really effs up the travel/feel of the key. Is there a way to fix that without glueing the damn stabilizer in? In general the keys really make the stock Filco keys feel like ****, although they're certainly not as nice as earlier Cherry DS, or the insane-o thick DS keys on my Futaba board.

I do think they have a pretty oily feel/look to them though, not a big fan of that. I'm also not loving the scooped F/J (vs nubbies) but whatever..

The one I got has a thick stabilizer wire, have you tried to use that instead of the original wires of your filco?(assume it fits)

i like the curvature of the F/J keys :)

Yep! "L" would be laser keycaps.

Be warned, not ALL the keys are double shot. They skimped out on the window and menu keys. Why? no idea..

Still a worth while buy!

Is there any significant difference between the G81-7000HPBUS and the G81-7000HPCUS?  I understand the "H" is generally indicative of doubleshots, but I have no idea what Cherry's designations mean beyond that...

Is there any significant difference between the G81-7000HPBUS and the G81-7000HPCUS?  I understand the "H" is generally indicative of doubleshots, but I have no idea what Cherry's designations mean beyond that...

I don't think anyone has a good understanding of what Cherry uses for their model designations, everything seems arbitrary

anyhow from what I've seen and read, the 3rd letter usually signifies some sort of distinctive feature, e.g. with/without WIN key,( cherry used "M" for 'boards with Win key and "A" for those without) NKRO ("N") and such.

no idea what "B" or "C" would possibly mean though, probably doesn't make a difference since we are just harvesting the keycaps, whatever feature to the keyboard itself we couldn't care less about.

Thanks.  That's what I guessed, just wanted some confirmation.  I found a "C" model for $15 shipped on eBay (pretty grungy, but looks cleanable) and wanted to make sure there wasn't some known "gotcha".
