So I'm guessing the reason there are so few posts about Cherry Clear switches is that there are very few boards that have them. I tend to hit/strike keys. I am not a touch typist and mainly use my keyboard to:

A: MMO Games
B: Surf the net  and do hum drum activities
C: game some more.

 By typing in this way, if what I do can even be called typing, I pretty much bottom out no matter the keyboard. Is there any advantage to even looking for a tactile switch or should I just go with something linear? I am prone to typos and there is a fair amount of chat in MMO's so I'm thinking lighter switches might not be all that worthwhile for me.

  I have heard that MX Clears are essentially the tactile brown switch with a black spring. Is this something that I should at closer or, should I be more or less looking at the MX Black?

Since you bottom out all the time, blacks are not a good choice...I would recommend either clears or browns. Personally, I think clears are more fun to type on. Check out the G80 POS board in my sig with clears.

Generally, people who like MX Clears also like Buckling Springs. Similar amount of force required.

Can't really say for myself (I have a couple MX Clear boards incoming from Germany though).

Definitely louder than browns. I dunno how the volume compares on a plate-mounted board like the Deck vs. PCB mounted like my G80 but on mine they are fairly loud. I believe if you don't bottom out when you type then they are much quieter.

I have heard that plate mounted switches tend to have a lower pitch. As long as its more of a thock-thock sound and not ping-ping I guess thats not a big problem. It is my leading candidate so far, the other being the Topre 55g 103.

I've found that PCB tends to have more of a thock and plate-mounted has more of a ping (at least when I used to have a Filco with browns and an MX11800 that was definitely the case). Dunno if that's different for clears but I've heard that it's the same way for blues.

I bottom out more often on my Browns than on my Clears, which makes my typing more loud on the Browns, but the Clear switch itself is more louder than the Brown, yes.

I do not agree with posters that say that the Clear is like a stiffer Brown. There are other differences than the spring that makes them feel different.

BTW, I am not a touch typist, but I do not "hunt and peck" either.
I feel that tactility is much more significant for avoiding typos than spring stiffness.

I've been trying out a G80 with clears for a couple of weeks.  I like the feel and sound of them if I bottom out, but I don't like the amount of work that takes due to the stiff springs.  If I use a lighter touch, and don't bottom out, I don't like the bouncy feel.  I'm still getting accustomed to them, though, and I'm just now getting to the point of being able to easily sense the tactile point while typing.  

I'm using the board at work, and I would say the clears are not very loud at all.  They're slightly louder than rubber domes, if you hammer away at them like I do.  They're much quieter than buckling springs.  They also feel stiffer than BS to me.

I wouldn't get too hung up about the sound of plate-mounted switches vs. PCB-mounted ones.  I have found that the key caps play a bigger role in sound than the mounting of the switches.

I bought this keyboard recently to compare it to the Das Ultimate. Honestly, I'm kind of in the middle of the road with these Cherry switches. I've tried the most popular flavors, and the Clears are my favorite of the set. As far as the Deck Legend Frost goes, its an excellent keyboard. I have very little to complain about the "Deck" side of things, and more to complain about the "Cherry" side.

I'd suggest picking up the Deck and testing it to learn more and see if it works for you. They have a 30 day money back guarantee. Thats hard to beat ;)

kl i wanted to give cherry a clear (no pun intended) shot, since the - how do you say it - general consensus out there is - if im not mistaken - and i could be wrong, clears are sort of a hybrid nomenclature between alps and bs, but cherry corp’s belief is that as clears have an actuating force of say, roughly 65.20 grams as opposed to 59 w/ the rest it wouldnt provide a “fun” typing experience like you just said.

i wanted to get ahold of one of those pos boards w/ clears but, clearly at this point, either cherry corp is making a mistake, for they have made the decision not to invest on these switches on their own boards, or you along w/ theferenc are in total denial of what switch would provide the best typing experience.

Basically cherry is an old, lazy company that doesn't innovate or listen to customers. Cherry USA sales especially. That's why the only cherry keyboards you can get NIB in the USA are ****.

GeekHackers know that the right keyboard choice ultimately comes down to using the keyboard and NOT paying attention to corporate decisions or keyboard company lies (and we have found that they lie time and again - just ask ripster).

i had been waiting f/ this board.  and yes.  i have to agree w/ you. clears are the best switches i have tried so far.  perhaps i find linear switches slightly more comfortable than their counterparts. i don't know. it is a shame - like i found recently -  that cherry corp is discontinuing them.

Discontinuing what? I'd assume we're talking about clears, but chimborazo mentioned linear switches when he was talking about discontinuing things.
