nKRO, PS/2, and adapter woes.

So far I'm loving my RK-9000. But partly why I got it was for full no-key rollover, which requires a USB to PS/2 adapter - which I ordered. Two of them in fact. Both of them don't work. When I plug in the adapter which the keyboard USB plugged in, the lights flash on then off and the keyboard. Nothing else. Video here:

Here are both of the adapters I have tried, both purchased from Newegg.


Things I have tried:
Checking for a BIOS setting(Similar to USB keyboard in POST - no bueno)
Trying a different computer (2 AMD systems, & 1 Intel 24" iMac - just usb)

I'm out of ideas. At this point nKRO isn't that big of a deal but I don't really get it. :pout:

If it's NKRO via usb to ps2 adapter, why wasn't it provided with the keyboard ?

My previous Ducky DK-9008 came with the adapter and it worked :X

It's advertised as full NKRO over USB they just didn't include the adapter. I'm assuming to cut costs.

Right.. the PS2 mode is with an adapter, hence PS/2



EDIT: Colors are irrelevant. The adapter is for USB > PS/2 signal conversion, the colors are for baby's first computer.

are you sure it works via usb to ps2 adapter ??

Because some keyboards like Deck legend say nkro via ps2 only (fine print says usb to ps2 adapter won't give you nkro though).

I have the Rosewill RK9000, mine didn't come with an adapter, however I had one around (not sure where it came from, it is purple and 'made for keyboards'). It works fine with the usb -> ps/2 adapter with NKRO.

I also have several of the green ps/2 adapters that came with my Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1a mice, and they do not work at all.

I was looking to order a few extra usb to ps/2 adapters for keyboards but couldn't find them at a reasonable cost and a lot of them get bad reviews for not working with certain devices.

Hope this helps some.

Please try to attach your keyboard to another desktop (PS/2 and usb) and laptop to discover whether the problem is with your switch, your keyboard, or your desktop PC.

it's as if no one read my OP... i tried different systems. usb works on all of them, ps/2 doesn't with either adapter. the product IS compatible with ps/2 via an adapter, that was never a question or up for debate :/

I'm going to assume the former due to the Newegg reviews indicating it worked without a hitch (with the reviewer linking to the GREEN adapter pictured above).

You could try a known-good USB converter (the kind that will take PS/2 boards and will plug into a USB port). If the board with PS/2 adapter works then, it's the systems. Else the adapters may be unsuited.

If you feel like poking around with a multimeter, you can check the  adapter pinout.

Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

Interestingly enough I got an otaku white Leopold Tenkeyless MX Cherry Red (came with an adapter) and have the same issue, this time on a new computer build that I didn't have last time. Don't know what the deal is.

Try turn off the computer, reset the CMOS, plug in the keyboard, see if it comes up. It could be quick boot skipping detecting new hardware.

Yeah, I find that I need to restart my computer once I have plugged in the PS/2 unlike USB. You probably have already tried it but then again maybe not. :D

Nice IMAK ergobeads btw. I got the same one. ;D Has anyone found any wrist rest better than the ergobeads because I haven't.

^PS2 is NOT designed to be hotplugged. Turn off the computer and plug it in.
