thanks for making my wallet lighter :D
« on: Sun, 20 February 2011, 17:35:45 »
Hi,

I just wanted to come by and say hi and thank the many contributors of this board.

I just received a Das Keyboard Silent a week ago for my office at work and tonight I ordered a Touchforce 86ub for my home office. I couldn't bear the tought of typing on my rubberdome steelseries at home any longer and just went all out on this keyboard. Judging from the quality of the impressions I found on this website regarding the Cherry Brown switches, I'm certain I will be satisfied with my new board.

I'll make sure to contribute to the discussion and give my personnal impressions once I have enought experience with my new toys. Hopefully, I too will have some innocent visitor spend a few hundies on keyboards.

Thanks again for being such a nice passionate community!

I know I'm not done here yet. I ordered the tenkeyless version, but of course I do want the numpad, I was thinking as well of getting some custom keys. I do prefer however to enjoy my new purchase and then to upgrade what I have.

Great to see that you enjoy it. Please do some youtube recording for us to see your keyboard and to hear its typing sound.

Cheers.

I wasn't blown away by a topre keyboard when I first got it. I actually thought it was rather mundane compared to cherry or alps switches. But it has a weird addictive characteristic to it that makes me go back to it every time I try a different keyboard. So I've been using it for 3+ years as my "daily driver." :)

OP I'm in the same boat as you :p I was saving up for a Canon 7D...then I discovered this website.

In less than a month because of this website I've bought:
-Compaq MX11800
-Filco Tenkeyless
-Mionix Naos 3200
-Artisan Kai g3 Hien
-2x Ergotron Neo-Flex (indirectly related to this site...too jealous of everyone else's nice setups!)
-Netgear N300 router
-Audio-Technica M50S headphones
-Zalman clip on mic
-NuForce USB DAC

Almost pulled the trigger on a Realforce too many times to count, but haven't gone that far yet ;) I think I'll try a Unicomp Spacesaver first...
Keyboards: Filco Majestouch-2 87key Browns - Realforce 103UB 55g - Compaq MX11800 (ghetto clears + doubleshots)

how could you blame the purchase of those headphones and amps on Geekhack?

I've been an addicted head-fier for a while, hopefully I won't spend as much on keyboards as I did on headphones :D

I should not go to the internet anymore -_-'

My indecision led me to cancel the order...I can't decide between them and the AKG701. Save money or get better headphones? The ATHM50S also fold for travel, and are closed, which are important for me. But the AKG701 are epic in their own right...

SIGH.

If you have a nice powerfull amplifier and you will be mostly listening at home the 701s will give you a nice open sound, don't consider bringing those outside.

The m50 will give you nice powerfull base on an ipod and will isolate well.

If you need advice just let me know what king of music you listen to and in what kind of environment you'd be listening and I will gladly help you!

The M50 imo is the best headphone if you are indecisive. Its a starter audiophile headphone. Trust me dude, I am just as indecisive as you. I bought so many mainstream headphones aka bose, beats, bla bla and returned them all and then I found head-fi.org

M50 is definately worth it, I got mine off ebay for <100. thats probably the best bet. However, if you have to spend $150 on it, I would advise you to get the dt770 instead. Those headphones are sickkkk

I just received my realforce 86u, and I must say it is exactly as you guys said it would be the feeling under the fingers kinda is underwhelming and not so special compared to going from a rubber dome to a mechanical keyboard. I'm feeling like it is much smoother and dare I say less demanding as an input device.
As I'm writting more and more I'm getting to know how the feeling of the different key change depending on their position on the board. I don't know if that will actually affect my endurance as a writter  but it sure does feel fancy to have different weight on the keys.
I'm in love with the small form factor, it does makes my desk look much bigger and dirtier as my old steelseries would hide all the gunk from my eyes. I will definitely have to clean up my desk as a welcome to this new member of my family.
I must say that the build quality is very impressive and that I love the aesthetics, the sound is quite pleasing and it makes for an very elegant typing tool. I get the feeling that keeping it clean will be much easier than keeping my Das Keyboard clean.
As I'm writing these words I'M getting a feel of what the "topre fart" is all about and it does not sound annoying to me at all. In fact I like it because it differentiate this keyboard from other keyboards I encounter. At least I know that there is something speacial when I write on it *-)
I feel like the typing experience is a little more refined on this keyboard compared to my Das Keyboard, the feeling is smoother and maybe a touch easier the hand. The way the letters are printed on the keys (sublimation I think) makes them super smooth under the fingers which is quite enjoyable.
Now I just need to order the full-sized keyboard, the red escape key, blue wasd, the numpad and I will truly be fullfilled :D.

Great to see that you like that Topre keyboard... And your writing is excellent to read.

Please include some of the keyboards you have in your future writings. Maybe a Filco or a Topre can be the main character's favorite possessions

Thank you, I had missed that. If I at some point I started writing, the main character would have severe obsessive compulsive disorder... If you see what I mean...
