XIM3 to Xbox 360 necessary?
« on: Thu, 24 February 2011, 02:08:49 »
I'm actully such a PC fan but when Super Streetfighter 4 refused to come out for super on PC I heated up a 360 to see I couldn't just put in a USB keyboard to play the same way I learned (a damned shame).  The best input device for mice seems to be the XIM3 (as for owning noobs on Xbox live without said device - tough luck).

Are there any software hacks I could do to bind my controller controls to my keyboard or will such a device be necessary?

Play street fighter with more then the 8 buttons without the need for ****ty analogue thumbsticks and poorly designed plastic buttons (with no switches? THE HORROR...)

Anyway... I got a blister on my thumb today from playing SSFV on the regular controler and it was rage inducing.  I could buy a tournament stick but... *shrug* that seems like a toy I would soon regret the purchase of.

I'm sure I could use a keyboard in a Street Fighter tournament with nothing more then odd looks and no disqualification no?

The razer onza is a better 360 controller.

That said, you could always try picking up a fightstick for 360 and sell what you got, the 360 fight stick should work on windows the same.
Das Keyboard Professional -mx blue- @ Work
Das Keyboard S Ultimate Silent -mx brown- @ Home

Do not fart in the same room as a dark brother or sister, to do so is to invoke the wrath of Sithis...

Just ordered a fight stick and I'll probably still get the Xim2 just for fun as its considerably cheaper.

While the mouse is obviously better for gaming and with reasons that are both simple and in depth.

The fightstick is much better than the keyboard when it comes to those types of games. If you see the tournaments about 99% of the people use them. With that said using a console pad is actually beneficial for a few characters and moves; I recall someone mentioning how zangiefs spin attack can actually be more easily executed and continued with the thumbstick than the joystick. Either way the fightstick even the fairly affordable ones sold as a game release special are actually pretty good quality. Hell later on if you want to you can even build your own using the parts you want sorta like a custom PC.

Many mention this site since they have a lot of information on different games and parts.

Just fell in love with this websites section on sagat.  You are right though eventually I want to make my own stick with PS3/XBOX360/PC capabilities so I can play anyone wherever I am.

The XIM3 is $150.

The XIM2 was $180 and required a computer.  The XIM3 is its own device, it is supposed to more responsive out of the box then you could get the XIM2 to be, mostly because the timings on USB aren't being handled by another system.  The input lag on it is the same as that of the controllers, 8ms.  I plan to get one so that I can play with my sisters in Halo without having to deal with joysticks for aiming.

I think you can use almost any device with it if it uses standard HID stack, but thats when firmware gets perfected.  Stuff is still getting checked for compatibility, I don't think any fightsticks are there yet.
Compatibility list
Current Keyboard: Deck Legend Ice (Tactile) with Cherry Clear switches

You might want to take a look at the other thread on here. Since you seem to want to maintain a keyboard like capability.

Unholy Union: Keyboard + Arcade Stick

Stickless board(Hitbox)

Someone using HHKB Pro 2

Though I can see the hitbox being more efficient than the keyboard layout plus cheaper. If you require some 3rd party device to use the keyboard on top of the cost of the keyboard.
