I am looking to get a pair of these monitors for work, and I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with ASUS monitors or even these specifically.  The Newegg reviews look good, but I am looking for more "professional" opinions.  Thanks.

Not what you ask, but since the new NEC EA232WMi is announced and sampled, you could start looking for good offers on the EA231WMi. Both are IPS in the low-end price range.

The ASUS you mention is probably TN (can't quickly find this piece of info). I'd stay out of TN.

It is TN.  I don't do any kind of graphical work (I'm an analyst), so I don't really need anything too high end.  I just have really small monitors at work, and I need something with more (pixel) real estate.  Looking over the offerings at Newegg, this one seemed to have the most bang-for-the-buck.

I did forget to mention that I am looking, specifically, LED-backlit.  Other than that, my requirements aren't too strict.  I want something with good contrast for text viewing.

I don't do graphics, either, at least not in the photo sense. I mostly stare at text.

I find TN very fatiguing to the eye. At least my eyes. Probably has to do with the 6-bit panel and the dither.

If you're spending that much dough on keyboards, you should do it for your eyes' sake, too, IMHO. Just a friendly advice.

Dunno why LED backlight is a must, but I think the EA232WMi fits.

I hear you.  I think I would go IPS if I was only using one monitor, but I use two quite extensively (to the point where neither is a "primary" monitor).  The price for two is a little out of my price range, unfortunately, especially since I can't get work to pay for it.  Since I have never had an IPS monitor, at the very least, I won't know what I'm missing.

Got a VH222H. Can't complain. I know **** all about monitors though. It displays porn well. That's all that matters.

VW222U here. Nice colors, nice response time. You can barely see the banding. And I had to have it replaced once because the buttons are cheap. But I think it'll last longer than all my Samsungs.

You should consider getting a 1920x1200 monitor the 16:10(1.6) factor benefits your work. The only other thing that would help is a multi-monitor setup(mixed landscape/portrait mode) or a larger resolution i.e. 2560x1600.

But you mentioned you don't want to spend so much money. Asus sells their VW266(1200P) and there's also a few other TN 1200P sold around that are sold fairly affordable. Unfortunately 1200P is disappearing and being sold at outrages prices for the extra pixels due to the whole 16:9 craze and so called "Full HD" bull****. For work the extra vertical height really helps.

Yes, for work 16:10 is superior to 16:9, you need more space verticaly than horisontaly. I hate those cheap industry people for this change...

I myself use as main monitor on my other rig an Lenovo L220x, sadly it's out of production, and wasn't the budget consumer-model...

Now if I had 1k extra to waste I would go for 30", if other parts of system can support it.
So I should add something useless here yes? Ok, ok...

Funnily enough, for me 5:4 or 4:3 is pretty much ideal, and now try finding a good, affordable monitor with that nowadays...

Guess when I need a new monitor, I'd have to go with some used Eizo / NEC 19" SXGA (like I have now) or 21" UXGA job.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

**** it, I bought 'em.  I got a good deal at Amazon of all places (on shipping, mainly), so I pulled the trigger.  I really like the Acer I have at home, and it's a POS, so I figured these would be awesome.  I'm already a keyboard nut, I don't need to be a monitor one, too.

glad you got over it :) all these various TN panels make little to no difference at all, so I wouldn't be too worried about which one I end up buying.

I am still on 4:3, but guess next one won't be. Wanna offer you mine when time comes for replacement?

ASUS seems to get good reviews everywhere I have looked, so I don't think I'll be disappointed.  Now, I'm getting excited; they should be here on 3/1.  I don't think my monitor arms are going to work, though, because they will be too big.  I'm probably going to have to go back to using stands.
